Prime RJJ was a beast, i know he gets stick for not fighting everyone but fighting toney, hopkins ... near enough cleaning the light heavy division then goin upto heavy to win a belt then goin down again to win his belts from tarver is one of the best accomplishments ive seen

shame it went all downhill after that

 

The word that's been banded around this week a lot is LEGACY.

RJJ was the ****ing best, but he's ruined his legacy.

 

i know what you mean he should of retired years ago, but with people like him i think his legacy was set in stone before his fall from grace,, when talkin about him in the future, his latter fights will just be an after thought

its like Ali, when talkin about his legacy no one really takes notice of the holmes and berbick fights

If RJJ retired after either the Ruiz fight or the first Tarver fight, people would have him down as one of the very, very best of all time and he'd literally be unbeatable H2H.

 

I agree with Froch but as already mentioned Jones has tarnished his Legacy post Ruiz, In his prime he was a phenomenal fighter untouchable he was.

I think mike Tyson has ruined his legacy fighting on past his best


Roy jones its hard to say but people getting into boxing in the last 5 years only remember the bad stuff
It is a shame and you can add toney and Holyfield to that list which makes Hopkins even more remarkable

 

I wouldn't say he's the greatest but he's certainly one of the best ever. Roy never reached the level he could have and that's saying something given all that he has achieved. Benn, Eubank, Collins, Mcclellan, Hopkins rematch, Michalczewski, he would've won all those fights and his legacy would be in a much higher place than it is now but for whatever reasons those fights never took place.
