We don't know the second world war happened then by your reasoning JAB5239 ?, we don't dont know Marciano's boxing record then ?, different newspapers are a solid source of infomation, boxing historians use newspaper reports all the time, due to a lack of film and no internet.

Are you saying the bout never happened ????

It doesn't fit your agenda that a Welsh bloke literally off the street had the better of Marciano in the boxing ring, i have no doubt that Matthews was fitter, stronger, faster and cleverer than Marciano but smaller in size and therefore too much for him too handle.

Super Joe Calzaghe ticks so many boxes for being a boxer you just can't bet against him, its unreal, will to win, ring craft and nous, fitness, determination, speed, skill, its all there, Super Joe was phenomenal.

Ye but what's you're point? Tilman beat Tyson in the amateurs got smacked in the pros.

Marciano was just fighting not boxing, didn't want a career in it..nothing. Just fighting.

Marciano was basically representing his country, his army unit, all the boys he was living with, going into the ring infront of them taking on another boy who was doing likewise, you can guarantee in that circumstance Marciano gave his best, he would have fought as hard as any world title fight, he had to go back to his army unit and face his countryman, his colleagues and friends after the bout, Marciano went back second best, it was officially a draw as the Welsh and Americans were on the same side in the war and apparently only beatdowns, stoppages and knockouts was given as wins.

So that is what Wales saw of Marciano in the ring, Wales saw Calzaghe in the ring beat Lacy, Roy Jones Jnr and Hopkins, yet the Americans try and tell us how great their top boxers are, oh aye, believe in the man not the hype.

Calazghe was a professional. Marciano was just a dumb punching bag who couldn't even jab right. Had nothing going for him except his wild swings. So why would you make a comparison like that? It was nothing more then another amateur bout.

Don't forgot the Welsh were fighting the Germans for a long time as well before the Americans came into the war and endured the resulting hardships, we fought the Germans for well over 2 years before the Americans entered the 2nd World War.

There again we fought the first world war for nearly 3 years before the Americans entered, you have to smile when they make Hollywood films, the masters of hype, same in boxing, they ain't as good as their hype when they actually get into the ring.

Calzaghe won four schoolboy ABA titles followed by three consecutive senior British ABA titles at different weights, then Calzaghe won 46 out of 46 pro fights, Calzaghe is a boxing great.
