What a terrible fight and backwards step this would be for Ricky! Be it Rees or Crolla! Ricky should be looking onwards and upwards! Forget Rees and Crolla.....fight the best in the division as the WBO champ. Try and unify the belts whilst you've got the opportunity! BE a champion! Ricky shouldn't be pulled back into the domestic level, if thats the case then he should of stayed with Frank! Come on Eddie! Get Ricky the big fights he deserves! (I can't post the link, so if you want the article, Google it, its under news - 3 hours ago.)
Hearn has said Burns September fight will be one off Vasquez, Beltran & Bogere. The article was Crolla & Gallagher talking about wanting the fight. Which is good. Fighters should have ambition. When Burns/Nelson & Hearn start talking about Crolla its time to worry.
Gotta be Vazquez surely....surely..... Ricky needs that fight. Eddie needs that fight. Not only is it a truly world level fight with lots of potential, the runner vs. the pressure. Getting that fight on will be somewhat of a victory for Eddie. Because he didnt just make the fight, he made sure it actually happened inside the ring. Which is a 1 up and 2 fingers up at you know who. Matchroom - "We get things done!" :happy
I would rather see Beltran personally. Vasquez will be a stinker. Beltran would be the best win of any of the 4 belt holders at 135lbs
I read this earlier, how on earth being unranked by WBO and 66 by boxrec rating can Anthony think the fight may be an eliminator? This will be a good fight but IMO Gavin has fought at a much higher level and ultimately it will show on the night, the only LW to beat Gavin in the UK is Ricky if they were ever to meet. You can't blame Anthony for hoping for a shot at Ricky but even if he were to beat Gavin I can't see it happening,Ricky is several levels above,Derry's reach gave Anthony kitten what would Ricky do!
I agree it could be a stinker if Ricky struggles like he did against Gonzalez. Vazquez is a spoiler, if Ricky struggles to figure him out early, Vazquez will dance the night away to a boring decision. If Ricky closes the gap, sets the tempo and keeps the pressure up, he can push him all the way. Vazquez won't come to fight, he will come to win. So Ricky will have to drag him into a fight to win. The fight could turn out either way, but it all depends on Ricky, because Vazquez will not come over to excite. It could be a great fight, or it could be **** for the Ricky Burns fans. For me it has to be Vazquez, forget Beltran. Vazquez is the IBF champ. WBO Champ vs. IBF Champ. Up in Scotland. Its a big fight. Winner takes all. If Ricky loses, try and get the Beltran fight on or move up. Depending on how close the fight is, there may even be a rematch in it with Vazquez. It makes sense....
Its not as if Vasquez is going to go anywhere. He will either stay IBF champion or lose his title. HBO & Showtime are probably not fussed about him so Hearn can make the fight any time.
Same here. :good Get the Vazquez fight on Eddie! Lets see what Ricky is all about my man! It could be a great night for British boxing if Ricky wins. If he presses intelligently its a winnable fight. If he lets Vazquez run around it will get away from him......I'm sure you won't let that happen Billy!
If is Vasquez, Beltran or Bogere I will owe Billy an apology I would prefer Beltran at this stage but any of these three would be good fights.
Its relevant right now though. What if Ricky was to lose before those big fights? Its damaging. He can rebuild, of course, but strike while the iron is hot! Ricky could face a nobody next, does nothing for him if he wins, but if he was to somehow lose, its a devastating scenario. Ricky is ready now and has been for a while for these big fights at Lightweight. Agree Billy?
