    Lets be fair though.

Ricky was scheduled to fight Liam Walsh one time. Where was Liam Walsh then, 59th? or was it 69th?

While Vazquez may be difficult to get to, Ricky can take risks against him that he couldn't against Gonzalez, because Vazquez isn't exactly a banger. So, if Burns can't outbox him, he can pressure him and drag him into a war and if he does there's only one winner IMO.

Is a fight with Vasquez as big as it can be though? He did 6,000 for his last fight, even though its a unification I still don't think Vasquez brings much to the table and I think even if Ricky wins, having another stinker will harm him.

Burns needs to show that he is an exciting fighter that has fun fights. Then you can do Vasquez at the Hydro and get 14,000 in there.

    I said that didn't I?

Ricky has got to dictate the tempo and force the fight. Drag the **** into a war that he has never been in before, get those mad whiskey drinking ****ers up in Scotland cranking the atmosphere right up. Ricky can do it, but he cant let Vazquez get into a rhythm running around like Roger Rabbit. Vazquez will clock the rounds up and he wont stay on his stool being so far ahead. Ricky has got to press the fight the moment that first bell rings.

In all seriousness, if Ricky does fight Vazquez billy you could do worse than getting Gonzalez in for sparring he could be a good mimic of that style and after their fight they could probably teach each other a thing or two. Ricky can show him how to train like a champion and Gonzalez can help Rickys sparring for how to box against a slippery awkward customer that moves around a lot and counters.

You said something similar but I don't think it matters if Ricky can't work out Vazquez early because Vazquez doesn't have the power to hurt him so he can walk him down and put the pressure on him and drag him into a tear up.

Gonzalez is a static fighter. Vazquez is a runner who doesn't stop moving his feet.

Gonzalez bangs. Vazquez taps in comparison.

Wrong sparring to prepare for a fight against Vazquez. IMO.

    Two totally different fighters.

That also completley plays into Vasquez hands.

Vasquez wins this fight all day for me. I wan't Ricky to win but I think Burns is taylor made for Vasquez.

Yes and if he leaves it to late the fight can easily get away from Ricky. He has got to press from the 1st round. Vazquez is a mover but he is also super fit, so is Ricky, so Ricky has got to match the workrate and close him down. Body punches are key. Whilst Vazquez doesn't seem to hit as hard as other fighters, you would be an idiot to dismiss his power.

How many times have we seen that go wrong?

Carl Froch has been dismissing Andre Ward's power. Watch Carl Froch get blasted out in that fight.

    :deal

Stylistically Vasquez is all wrong for Ricky whilst I would never rule Ricky out, and I have no doubt that he we learn from the Gonzalez fight at this point in time I would be keeping him away from Vasquez.

    Same here.

Ricky really struggled with distance and slight changes against Gonzalez. That may well have been a bit of ring rust and you'd be ignorant to assume that is Ricky full stop. But that isn't a good sign against someone like Vazquez, the bloke is a wasp you cant get rid of. Running around on the backfoot, shitloads of movement. Ricky must get Vazquez to respect him and feel uncomfortable. Ricky needs to land something in the early rounds to make Vazquez realize he is in a fight and he is in Scotland, then press the fight for the duration. If not Vazquez will run away with the fight before Ricky knows it. Similar to the first 6-7 rounds against Gonzalez. But Vazquez will get over the line. It could quite easily be a 10-2 fight if Ricky doesn't match Vazquez.

So why are you so desperate for Burns to lose?

I am all for British fighters taking on the best but not if they are going to lose!

Find another thread for this crap.

Where am I desperate for Burns to lose? Why even turn it into that?

I think Ricky can win or lose the fight, anybody with two braincells can see thats what I was saying. Its up to him. No risk, no reward. This is the fight that will say a lot about Ricky. If he wins it he legitimizes himself. But you dont take the fight because you are afraid of the possibility of losing?

If thats the case, Ricky shouldnt be fighting and should just work in the sports shop.

I'm not desperate for Ricky to lose. I want to see big fights if i am guilty of anything! Miguel Vazquez is a big fight in the division. WBO champ vs. IBF champ.

Its criminal if they dont make the fight soon. Its the biggest fight apart from Burns vs. Broner.
