I came across these two different broadcasts of Eubank/Watson II on Youtube.

The difference is absolutely fascinating and it highlights the difference that camera angles and commentary can make to a fight. fast forward the one with the full fight to the 11th round (about 39 minutes in) and compare. I can't believe the difference.

Yeah it was the same with every Eubank fight - in fact in some fights there were three different English-lingual commentaries; ITV, ProBox, Showtime.

Jim Watt (ITV) had a negative style, and dampened fight atmospheres.

Barry McGuigan (ProBox) had a positive style, and enhanced fight excitements.

    Watt ruined Hatton-Tszyu.

Watt has ruined many fights over the years. He tends to be over harsh on British fighters (in general). I think he's trying not to be biased but goes a bit OTT

I think that's what I can't get my head around. In the McGuigan version Watson is clearly winning and everything goes mental when Watson goes down.

In the Watt version it's incredibly close and Watson going down is a bit of a non-event.

I don't know if it's youtube at fault but the crowd noise is completely different too.

The HBO commentary of Froch VS Kessler II was pathetic, and even more pathetic for the Haye vs Kiltschko fight. During the Haye vs Kiltschko fight they just took the **** all night, they seemed incredibly happy that a British fighter was not looking like he was going to become World Heavyweight Champion. Glad because all their heavyweights are all fat and a complete waste of space.

Also during the Froch vs Kessler fight, i just sensed that they where not motivated and disinterested in the event.

    Boxing commentators need passion.

I agree with what you say about Froch-Kessler II altough I like Kellerman's passion but he isn't blow by blow but you can totally see where they were coming from on Klitschko-Haye.

That was a dissapointing fight and from a neutral POV it must have been even more grbage.Haye was dissapointing himself.

I love the UK call when Lewis KO'd Tyson, 'That's a cracking RIGHT HAND! And that must finish it! That must finish it! Lennox Lewis seals his place in History forever and closes the book on Mike Tyson!"

I can't see where they where coming from with the Haye vs Kiltschko fight, why was it not a disappointing performance for Wladimir Kiltschko..? David Haye fought a ambush type of fight, it's a shame he was not a big fat **** like Shannon Briggs. Maybe the american's prefer it when their heavyweights cannot move or throw a punch because they are that out of condition.

"Maybe they prefer big fat heavyweights who get beaten up for 12 rounds"

The HBO team showed no......NO! professionalism and took the **** all night, it was a legit heavyweight title contest, and anybody who knows boxing knows! That both fighters nullified each other defensively, because sometimes that's what happens when two fighters on the same technical and athletic level come together. And if the two fighters decide to box, the fight will always end up being a chess match. Sometimes during a boxing match a fight breaks out, is a old quote Bother Nazim Richardson sometimes says, a fight did not break out but.? that's elite level boxing.

I think HBO where pathetic and totally unprofessional.

I have never ever seen British commentators take the **** during a big fight.

Shame about the america heavyweights, its like all the poor black athletes are getting a chance these days.

And lets not even start with Deontay Wilder.

    I can't stand the twat.

I remember this like it was yesterday....

Its always better when you can hear the excitement and shock in the commentators voice and delivery.

    I like raw uncut emotions!

I'd say it was somewhat dissapointing from Wlad yes but....

Haye trash talked for years before the fight and then started falling around in the ring during the fight,it got so bad he even got counted for it and then blamed it on his toe.

All the **** he got was completely warranted from any side of the pond.

I'm not american, don't know why you are throwing all that american thing at me..I think Wilder's garbage aswell.

Personally Idon't like commentators of any shape.Maybe the Japanese ones because I can't understand a thing and they yell like crazy *******s.

Just FYI in the future you can timestamp video links from Youtube to save readers a step (of having to "fast-forward" themselves)

Right-click on the grey timeline bar (which turns light grey when buffered and red when playing) on the video at whatever point you want the link recipient to watch from, and select "Copy URL at current time".

ie, for the start of the 11th round:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=HWcWsCEtjc8#t=2344s

Unfortunately I don't think it's yet possible to have embedded video links in posts retain a time stamped jumping point, but you didn't embed yours in the OP anyway.

Yes I used to switch between ITV and Eurosport when Eubank fought, the crowd seemed louder and clearer on Eurosport

  14. Whatever happened to blow by blow commentating ? Its seemed to completely disappear from the game. I remember watching a German card on BN not to long ago, can't recall the fight or Commentator (Maybe it was Huck/Arslan ?) but the guy who was calling the fight did the best job I've seen in years, simple blow by blow describing everything that was happening in front of his eyes, every punch, movement ect. I'm sure someone on here will know his name, that's how boxing commentary should be.

I'm sick to death of hearing these clowns at HBO, Showtime, ESPN, Sky, the international broadcasts with Bob Sheridan, Dougie Fisher, Raul Marquez, that **** with the weird hair, Ralling, Watt, and all the others. They don't talk about the fight that there supposedly watching, too busy talking about amateur experience, previous opponents, the weight, fighters personal lives ect ect its very annoying.

Jim Watt used to be a lot better on ITV than he is now but that's mainly due to Reg Gutteridge carrying him in those days.
