I'd have to say no. Despite the fact that Pacquiao is coming off two losses in a row, one by brutal knockout, him fighting Mayweather in September STILL would be bigger than FMJ-Alvarez will be. That's actually sad when you think of it, but boxing's followers - both the causal and hardcore - are so fickle in nature, that it's a undeniable truth. If the fans had been able to choose FMJ's next opponent after Rob G., you can bet the house that Pacquiao would have been chosen. Not by me, though, and probably not by most hardcore fans, although certainly by some.

All that being said, this is a huge fight, and if it's promoted right, it has the potential to break some records

Based on what was being posted here, the Pac/FLoyd fight had lost a lot of it's appeal.

Well, that's what people say, but keep in mind how fickle boxing fans are. Some people thought '88 Tyson would show up to fight Holyfield! Hell, some even though '88 Tyson would show up against Lewis!

Bigger fanbase, simple as that. Pac draws in almost just as many PPV buyers. People would buy fights just to watch him. Canelo's never headlined a PPV and isn't a household name. Plus, it's a fight that had been talked about and hyped for years now.

No way as big as Floyd/Pac would have been 09-10. Canelo doesn't have the history or pedigree Pac had.

No, of course not. But it's huge, it's definitely a mega/super duper/crazy big fight.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao was on another level, though.

May-Pac would have been bigger than May-DLH. I am of course talking about May-Pac in it's prime, 2009-early 2011. Too much power was involved, we are talking Arum's best fighter vs Haymon's most beloved fighter. Lots fans blame Mayweather and Pacquiao, but there's a lot more people to blame, like the media adding fuel to the fire of the two fighters ego's and basically trainers and people who aren't even involved in negotiations, getting involved in a way they shouldn't have.

Right now, there is no bigger fight in the sport than Mayweather vs Canelo. But when Mayweather vs Pacquiao talks was at its peak, there was no match up between any team of any sport, of any time in history, that would match the revenue, TV coverage, commercialization, hype, and fanbase that Mayweather vs Pacquiao would have had.

I think if the fight would have been signed in 2010, the world would have blown up. And Forget about post fight; boxing websites would have been down for days.

FMJ-Pac prior to 2012 obviously would have been bigger than FMJ-Alvarez. That goes w/o saying. I'm asking people's opinions on NOW.
