Is This The End of The Train for Sergio Martinez?

We'll have to see how he comes back and performs through training in his next fights.
He did look very vulnerable with Murray, but all factors considered, I can't say his career is over. His age and body points that it very well could be.

 

End of the line, maybe. End of the road, sure. But not the end of the train.

 

1. It was his first fight back after surgery
2. That "handpicked nobody" was a top 10 fighter.
3. HE BROKE HIS F'IN HAND!!!

 

I think he will cash out and call it a day. He deserves at least 1-2 good pay days, even if he loses the fights.

That's no excuse to get your ass whooped by a handpicked opponent when you're supposedly a top 5 P4P fighter, plenty of fighters have won matches having broken hands, Ward, Devon, Sergio himself etc

and yeah Murray is a nobody, a very limited, very ordinary fighter who hadn't beaten anyone of note in his whole career (well, you could say a past prime Maravilla was the first one), he didn't even deserve that gift draw against Sturm.

I think he got some sympathy points because Sturm was coming off robbing Macklin. No wonder Murray was cheering and being hoisted up after the announcement of the draw with Sturm as if he had won. And that's Murray's greatest achievement coming to the fight

Martinez lost to a cherrypick which is the biggest shame in boxing, and looked overall terrible, power gone, legs gone, reflexes gone, chin gone, even heart gone, wtf was with him feigning low blows and headbutts and bitching to the referee at every opportunity and clowning when he was actually getting spanked?

It was sad to see how dramatically he's declined after just one fight

If he knows what's good for him, he'll retire. He's finished at the top level

Murray was a top 10 ranked fighter, who arguably has a win over Sturm in Germany.

Agreed. I'd like see how he responds. Coming off a leg injury, he looked out of shape(for him). For someone who relies on his legs like that it can be crippling. I'd like to see how he comes back, but he might be done for.

 

That's where I'm at when I talk about this.

I really hope he can just call it quits on the W streak, or at least go out losing a competitive fight instead of getting sparked.

 

Not yet. Martinez still has something left IMO. I think he has three more fights left in him.

he's a to be 39 year old boxer with about as purely athletic a style as you will see. his legs are nowhere near where they once were. he's got nagging and continuing injuries that are effecting him in the following training camp.


he is all done as a top fighter. he'd get stopped by golovkin. it would be brutal. golovkin would jab him to the ropes when his legs fail him, and he'll get knocked out. hell, even quillin probably stops him now.


i don't think you guys appreciate how fast martinez was in his prime, or how bad he looked against martin murray.

He's done IMO. Past prime and declining physically at a rapid rate. It would be wise for Floyd to fight him next year and it will be a good cash out for Sergio. Not a bad fight either since Floyd is past prime also.
