Can we stop all this 'Elite K1 striker' BS now?

Even though I defended JDS in this thread I have to argue with you. This "they have x wins in pro boxing" **** is dumb that's the same BS Rogan says every time someone knows a little bit how to box because neither him nor the most MMA fans KNSAB. Saying that they know how to box is like saying Mercer is a decent MMA fighter because he ko'd Sylvia which is more impressive than any of these win guys like Lytle, Maldonado, Philappou and others have in boxing because they fought absolutely no one not a single one of them and most of their opponents were probably part time MMA fighters anyway. It's just as bad when Rogan mentions that Schaub has won a Golden Gloves tournament

Your argument can't possibly be that the only people on the planet who "count" as having good boxing technique are legit boxing champs and future hall of famers. I bring up Lytle and Davis not to say that they're were world class boxers who gave it up in mma but to say that they are people who obviously had very high level (relative to 99.99999% of the planet, not to PBF and BHop) boxing skills who found that it worked better to tweak them to succeed in mma. You can even see it in Lytle's career; he started out with much more measured punching technique early on and then moved on to winging hard shots later on as he realized that it worked as well if not better but also was more likely to lead to bonus money.

its almost impossible to cut off unless you're shooting for takedowns or the opponent decides to trade.

If you think any MMA fighter would stand and bang with Semmy Schilt you are mistaken.

Most MMA fighters stand square on to avoid takedowns. Most K1 strikers stand side on to kick. So in some ways MMA fighters have an advantage in rthe cage. If an MMA fighter tried to step into a ring it would be a blood bath.

A Elite K1 Striker is simply a striker with the ability to take out another with a good clean strike. Sure UFC and others have ELITE strikers the difference being K-1 has ONLY strikers correct Bully ?

I am guessing your getting CROSSED up on the perception that being a ELITE K1 striker means one can with STRIKING ALONE take out the top UFC dudes with the answer always having been NO. Its simply means they have the ABILITY to take ONE out with one or two ELITE strikes. **** Roy Nelson qualifys as a elite striker, so do lots , JDS even Cain in many ways.

Your lucky I am not leaving with a parting shot.

It wasn't a STUPID THREAD I am not saying that. Personally i liked it or otherwise i wouldn't of come in here. Do not press your luck mother****er.

I haven't seen his early fights and I already said that looping shots can be useful sometimes also in real boxing but if he started to throw them all the time I would just guess that his technique regressed because he was fighting lesser strikers who he could take out with single shots and if he had to think less of striking technique it was easier to defend TDs. Crocops technique also regressed A LOT if you compare his fights he had liek 3 stages in his career the first where he was a kickboxer fighting MMA the second where he was in his MMA prime he already fought different in the standup and the third where he is now he is bad at both. A good comparison are his 2 fights with Hunt in the first he had great movement kept calm under pressure threw combinations and in his second (ok it was under MMA rules but it was pretty much a kickboxing fight) he threw only single shots started to panic when he was in a corner and was jsut much sloppier in his standup and that's why he lost his standup regressed

Read the OP again, you dumb ****. I was talking about Rogan and how he always gives the edge in striking to the guy with K1 experience. Hunt, as much as I like the guy, looked like **** in terms of technical striking. He threw a kick at one point and looked so off balance it was like watching a drunk gypsy kicking his dog in a pub car park. K1 is a striking contest, and to win it you need to be better at striking that the guy you are fighting. But to say a stint in K1 means you should automatically be considered an 'elite, world class striker' is just bollocks. In fact I think that kind of attitude may have contributed to Overeems arrogant and **** poor performance against Bigfoot. Don't believe the hype.

K-1 is not overrated at least by mma fans most are bashing it saying how bad they are despite most mma fighters having horrible standup kickboxing fans might really overrate it but most mma fans.....

I agree with where your post is coming form Mali, but actually most K-1 strikers come out of some from of MT background where we stand pretty square on especially compared to boxers.

It's only really the pyjama guys with a more classical or traditional Martial Arts background like Karate, Taekwondo or a Kung Fu that stand sideways on. And usually once they get a fair amount of FC bouts against "harder" styles they start to square up pretty quick.

This makes no sense. Usually people claim that mma fighters don’t have capability to be good proper strikers and that’s why they look so sloppy. You’re claiming that “proper” boxing technique would be more effective and that experience pro boxers like Lytle once had it and then let it regress, which clearly works against their interests. Lytle made WAY more money in mma than he ever did boxing and you think he just decided to let (in your opinion) his most effective techniques lapse? That makes no sense at all.

You’re missing the absolutely obvious interpretation in both cases and a) what is the most effective technique in a pure striking match is not the most effective in an mma match and b) it’s that way BECAUSE you have to defend takedowns. For some reason you want to label this “regressing”. Obviously Crocop wanted to make as much money in mma as possible and had the ability to “impress you” with his striking in a kickboxing match but then decided to let it “regress”? Again, that makes NO SENSE. Open your eyes and get off this stupid kick of pretending mma striking “should” look like boxing or kickboxing.

I've never heard of this before. How many different MMA agencies are there?

    I thought MT'ers used a narrower stance?

I guess we'll just never know until we get some serious pure-boxer contenders --with a little bit of wrestling defense up under their belt-- to enter the ring.

i was really hoping for the James Toney and Randy Couture fight to open up some flaws in the things you mentioned regarding MMA stance and technique, but alas.. what a disappointing fight.

I was a year behind in watching that fight and remembered everyone telling me how much of a let down it was as Couture immediately dived for Toney's legs.

Maybe regression isn't the right word...
