ever surprise you that some boxing brothers fight exactly the same 'n others couldn't be more different: one a boxing dancing master 'n the other a brawling slugger. Any examples come ta mind; 'n whattya attribute it to?
The Ruelas bros were different. Rafael was more a go-for-broke hooker and Gabriel was more cerebral, paced operator. Not leagues apart but definitely different.
Your post jars two other brothers to mind, S, Joey 'n Jimmy Archer. Joey was a classic standup boxer/puncher. Jimmy was a crowding brawler.
Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund come to mind as being opposites. Meanwhile, the Klitschkos get paired together a lot as though they pose the same challenges but I see an awful lot of differences. Marquez brothers both have Nachoesqueness, which is a word, which I have invented.
Robbie Sims wans't half the fighter his half-brother, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, was, although their styles were somewhat similar. MMH switched but I believe Robbie was a southpaw full-time. Anthony "Two-Guns" Fletcher was kind of a rangy sharp-shooter type guy. Brother Frank "The Animal" Fletcher was, well, an animal -- mauler and brawler. Both were southpaws. Outside the ring they were more similar in that Frank at last check from what I know was in state prison in Pennsylvania and Anthony was on death row from a murder conviction.
Without getting too technical, Bobby and Manny Pacquiao differ in that one was very good and the other wasn't.
Micheal and Leon Spinks. Mike was the awkward, herky-jerky stylist with one punch power in both hands. Leon was the crowding swarmer who relied on energy grit to win fights. Extending the analogy, Cory was pretty different from his Dad in terms of style, as well.
Orlando Canizales was a Ricardo Lopez esque boxer puncher who fought behind a tight, high guard who was great at making guys miss with head movement in the pocket before counter punching with short, tight shots. By contrast, his brother Gabi was an intense, front feet pressure fighter. He was a right hand bomber while Orlando was more noted for his left hand. As a side note, although Orlando had loads of title defenses, I think head to head, Gabi is closer in quality to Orlando than he gets credit for. Bruce and Donald Curry were pretty different too. Bruce was a sort of helter skelter fighter who winged shots from crazy angles while Donald was as patient as they come. In fact, I think guys like Rafael and Juan Manuel Marquez who are very, very close stylistically are more of an exception than a rule.
what about teams of brothers like the Zivic's or AUZ's Sand brothers. Shorty & Big boy Hogue, the Turpin's, Cooper brothers all varying from nice boxers to fighters. must be dozens more. Kiki's Baltazar brothers and so on.
The Viruet bothers come to mind...Edwin being the fleet footed boxer and Adolpho,...more of a boxer/slugger...
Great shout on the Baltazar brothers Knew Fritzie had lots of brothers, but don't know as much about them. Read a lot about Dave Sands(wish I'd seen him) but didn't know about a lot of great OZ fighters, t
What about the Belloise brothers ? Mike Belloise was a light punching featherweight one time champion who was a clever boxer. But his younger brother Steve Belloise was a tremendous punching MW who kod 59 of his 95 wins...He even kod the terrific MW Georgie Abrams...
