Quote Queensberry Promotions wish to clarify the position by the following statement: “Andy Ayling, on behalf of Queensberry Promotions won the right to stage the British Middleweight Championship between Billy Joe Saunders and John Ryder, following a purse offer at the British Boxing Board of Control last Wednesday (22nd May). The terms of this purse offer were easy to understand and very straightforward. The Promoter must inform the BBBofC of a date and a venue for the contest to take place no later than 5pm on Wednesday 5th June. In turn, both boxers have ten days in which to sign a simple and standard BBBofC contract and return it by 1st June 2013. The terms specifically state that the fight cannot happen within 21 days of the purse offer and further that neither boxer can take part in any contest within 28 days of the date submitted by the Promoter. Understanding these terms, Saunders’ Manager, Frank ****** contacted Queensberry Promotions expressing a wish for Billy Joe Saunders to fight Gary O’Sullivan on 20th July for the WBO Intercontinental title. Due to this date not affecting the terms of the purse offer nor Mr Saunders obligations and as the British title is not at stake, then naturally no objection was raised. Therefore, for the avoidance of doubt both Andy Ayling on behalf of Queensberry Promotions, Mr. ****** and Billy Joe Saunders, having already signed contracts, clearly have every intention in staging this contest as per the terms of the purse offer. Accordingly, once John Ryder’s signed contract is received, a date and venue will be announced for this exciting clash to take place.”
"Frank ****** contacted Queensberry Promotions" Did he shout across the landing or just knock on the bedroom next to his to contact them?
Billy Joe wasn't at the presser yesterday. Has just been told that he's boxing Gary O'Sullivan - unbeaten, dangerous but virtually unknown for XX amount - instead of Ryder in a high profile bout on Sky for the best part of £60K with the guarantee of getting paid?
Happy days think this should be a good scrap . This is from Irishboxing.com BILLY JOE Saunders faces a ‘horrible b*****d’ that hits harder than former World Champion Steve Collins this weekend according to Celtic Gym coach Pascal Collins. The British and Commonwealth champion challenges Cork’s Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan in Wembley Arena for the WBO International middleweight title in the chief support on the “Behind Enemy Lines” bill, headlined by Dereck Chisora versus Malik Scott. And ‘Spike’s’ coach Collins, a brother of Irish boxing legend Steve Collins, warns the favourite he is in for the biggest fight of his life against a fighter that punches so hard the trainer has had to invest in specialised pads. “Spike has every quality required to be a world champion,” trainer Paschal Collins told The Score.ie “Out of the ring, he’s a real gentleman but inside he’s one horrible *******. Whenever I used to spar my brother, though we’re very close, he’d always try to knock me out. Spike’s exactly the same if I’m stupid enough to stick the gloves on with him. He’s blessed with real concussive power in both hands. In addition to our Steve, I’ve sparred Frankie Liles and neither hit close to as hard as Spike O’Sullivan does. I need to wear special mitts when we’re doing our pad work.”
11/2 good odds . http://www.*****.net/news/wbn/2013/07/17/osullivan-tipped-to-topple-saunders-on-saturday-night.html
The link i've posted is a good read . O Sullivans trainer saying people judging by the Matthew Hall fight are making a huge mistake .They took the fight at 2 and a half weeks notice with 20 rds sparring this time they've had over 300 rds .They've been sparring the recent prizefighter champ Eamon O'Kane plus JJ McDonagh and Paddy McDonagh 2 big southpaws .11/2 is too good odds I think I fancy a few quid on it .
