He was paid $4m against Tito and thought he was worth more than $6m against that DLH, being the king at 154lbs and all.

It was a gross miscalculation on Winky's part, one which he'll have to live with.

DLH was busy cross dressing and snorting coke, Winky would've really whooped him. :bbb

Yep. For some reason people think he was a classic boxer. He was a slugger who had the ability utilize his reach and jab to dominate a fight but he rarely did. Usually hed get in slugging matches which is how he lost to Mayorga snd struggled with Quarteys defensive style

Yeah Wink would beat part-time Oscar handily.

Agreed MDub. The overhand right was so telegraphed it's scary and he didn't have much of a hook either. He reminded me a lot of James Page actually. A guy, oddly enough that was KO'd by another overachieving slugger, Lewis

Same reason he didn't fight winky wright. High risk no reward. Both woulda beat de la Hoya.

Its interesting that most think winky would've beaten Hoya at 154. He was one heck of a fighter

Vernon V Winky would have been a great fight! Vernon would have sparked Oscar in a war!

Winky really appeared to price himself out of big fights

never knew the Oscar 6 mil rejection but he almost beat Jermaine Taylor and he priced himself out of that rematch

I agree, both would have used their superior jabs to handle de la Hoya.
