Another thread that i have read that reminded me to want to discuss this.... This is one of the common things that i've seen on forums dealing with Floyd Mayweather, that he is Boring or he Runs or he fights Scared but in reality is just that he is schooling his foes and they can't cope with Floyd's defense. Now here is the thing i do not get. the same people who calls him boring, runner, and fights scared are the SAME ones that kept wanting him to fight guys way bigger than him naturally so he forced to fight in an elusive defensive style. You guys want him to fight with more aggression start demanding him to fight guys closer to his size then. It is not like there are not great fighters at 140 or 147. Floyd could bully those guys and bring his old boxer/puncher style.
I agree. Floyd wins fights by outboxing his opponent. If a fighter's punch output drops when they are in the ring with Floyd it is because they are hitting air and getting caught with counters in return. I might get a lot of hate for this, but I don't care. Bernard Hopkins is a perfect example of a boring fighter. If he is in the ring with someone who has the physical advantage he resorts to some ugly, boring tactics. Floyd is the exact opposite. Floyd was at a physical disadvantage against Ortiz and Mosley and he was beating them to the punch in the center of the ring. When Bernard is in with someone that has advantages over him, it's completely different. Don't get me wrong, he is tremendous but go and watch the Jones Jr rematch or many other of his fights when he feels like he could lose.
Many of Floyd's fights are anticlimatic. Mayweather put on a stellar performance against Guerrero. However, it was was pretty obvious by around the 4th or 5th round that Guerrero was just going to get schooled. There was no tension or anticipation. The Cotto fight had it, so did the Ortiz fight. Mayweather is very talented, and is a perfectionist in the ring. He prides himself on not making many mistakes. It can make for anticlimatic fights.
Floyd, Hopkins and Wlad are the most boring elite fighters of the last couple of decades, between the three they have at most three or four fights worth watching twice the rest of their fights i would only advice them to people who have trouble sleeping. Edit: Correction Floyd at 130 wasnt boring that Floyd was awesome it was only when he began climbing through the weights that his fights become more and more boring with him getting more and more cautious probably due to him fighting bigger guys, but with the gulf in class between him and most of his opponents he could put on a better show if he wanted instead of just being happy with potshoting his way to a boring UD, Roy Jones also fought a lot of guys that didnt had half the talent he had but he made those mismatches worth watching cause you never knew when he would do something we had never seen before and he would pull stunts that had us talking about it for weeks, Floyd has the talent to do the same but he chooses not to .
Floyd could bully those guys? okay so what happened in fights with Hatton and Marquez and Guerrero? cus he sure as **** didnt bully them guys and they are his size. The reality is what makes Floyd a boring fighter is going in he usually has every single advantage over his hand selected opponent and still comes out with the same song and dance that scratch and sniff style. what bothers me is he does this **** with guys who have no chance at all to win even if Floyd stood on a time and fought them at close range and allowed them to hit him.... To me what makes Floyd boring is considering all the skill and talent he has, he doesnt want to test those abilities. The problem I have you all tend to believe just because we like to see good action fights, you assume automatically we have no appreciation for the art of the sport you also assume that in order to be a "True fan" you must like that style of fighting other wise your just not a fan at all. thats a huge mis conception here, its okay to have a preference of which style you prefer watching etc... you can still be a fan and prefer aggressive blood and guts fighters... to me the reason I prefer fighters like Margarito and Holyfield is because guys like Margarito and Holyfield actually go out and demand the biggest challenges they take all challenges head on. So in reality for me it doesnt come down to skill set at all, I have a preference for what type of fighter I prefer to watch, and I prefer to watch fighters who are willing to risk it all fighters who are not business first sport 2nd you could argue longevity and all that but at the end of the day it is I who buys the ticket its I who orders the fight so why am I going to spend my money on something that will put me to sleep?.... I am sorry you dont like to hear it but I do find Floyd boring no matter who he fights what size the fighter is the last time we have seen Floyd step on the gas and out gun his opponent was against a shot to **** Gatti....
Yeah i know what you are talking about. Bhop's fight have a strong possibly that it becomes unwatchable. His offense becomes holding and mugging. That is fine and dangy to me if he puts a lot of damage to his opponents but for the most part he will throw a half committed punch and str8 into a clinch and each of the clinch with be close to 30 secs long like Ricky Hatton's clinches. The mugging process sucks all the fight out.
When you fight and people are leaving and booing you, you're boring. The Catchweight King Floyd Mayweighter is boring.
Hatton is far from boring. Floyd was bullying the bully styled Hatton whose sole mission is to mugged you and cheap shot you to the back of the head. Marquez and Guerrero got great chin and tough as nails. What about Zab? Cotto? Shane? When Floyd is walking them down? Floyd fought toe to toe with Cotto the whole night.
I think when people plunk down money for a PPV, there is a heightened expectation for a toe to toe battle and/or KO. Floyd doesn't deliver those things. Also, big PPVs attract crowds that aren't really boxing crowds, they are just there for the event. Of course Floyd is going to bore a lot of those. They don't see the level of skill, just a guy running around and pot shotting. People just need to set realistic expectations; look at it like the movies. Want a movie where stuff blows up and there's less plot? Order Pac PPVs. Want something slower and with nuance? That's Mayweather.
Exactly nobody in their right mind who spent that kind of money for a ticket to come see one of the "Greatest fighters that ever lived" walks out on the fight if that fighter isnt boring...
People get to caught up in wanting to see Floyd lose, so when he thoroughly outboxes opponents it throws people off. When someone like Mosley comes off the Margarito win looking like a monster then steps in the ring with Floyd and gets beat so bad that he is unwilling to engage, it somehow makes Floyd boring. If anything Floyd's defense and offense are so good, it makes other boxers boring because they become unwilling to throw anything.
its really nothing to argue, if people find him boring, they find him boring. And you obviously don't. I'm not sure how you can argue whether people think he's boring or not.
Floyd should fight Pac bc he is wide open for right hands, Khan bc he is chinny, timmy bradley who is feather fisted but considered a good fighter and his aggression will give Floyd plenty of opportunies and Garcia who got a somewhat leaky defense and avg chin.
