One thing is for sure. It would have been an epic battle between two warriors, going toe-to-toe in an all out gladatorial war.

Benn would refuse to budge and nicks it late in a thriller , two brilliant fan friendly fighters like these and it's hard to imagine a dull fight , I know I will probably get shot with **** here but Froch has the touch if the Eubanks about him in the popularity stakes here in 2013 , not saying in 20 years time he won't be viewed upon with the same rose tinted glasses like people tend to view Chris with these days but back then he was as popular as Froch appears to be looked upon now .

Tough one to call Benn said himself he was a small super middle weight and Carl is a handful at the weight it's also possible that Carl could knock Benn out the Benn I saw fight Sugerboy Malinga would have certainly lost. both fighters at 160 and there maybe a different out come. I'm a massive Nigel Benn fan.

 

I'd go with Nigel by late stoppage.

For me he could take Carl's punches better than the other way around, with his decent head movement etc.... plus Carl is wide open to counters at mid-range, which Benn would throw with regularity.

A lot is made about Froch's apparently undentable chin, but I don't buy that. He's undoubtedly hard as ****, but I think there are fighters who could deck him and keep him there.

Benn at his best is one of those.

 

It is certainly a fantasy match up that gets me salivating with excitement. An outdoor arena filling fight, two warriors with the styles to compliment each other. Benn has certainly mellowed with age and his move towards Christianity, I was still surprised to see him concede Froch's respective likely dominance.


I'd expect Froch to take a clear but close decision, his superior reach would give him the edge, he's simply the naturally bigger guy. Benn would have had a better chance v's the Froch of a few years ago when he'd often start slow and sluggish, Benn could potentially have blitzed him in those early rounds.

When you look at the past Super-middleweights, Ottke would have probably outpointed Froch in Germany, Gerald McClellan would probably have knocked him out, Jeff Lacy may have beaten him too.

Jeff Lacy may have had a great future if he didn't run into Calzaghe same for McCellan running into Benn.
