Most consider the physical and tactical elements of football to have moved on, defense too. Maradona was also better than Pele
Yeah, but we could wrong. The developments in sports where you can quantify development is an indicator that we are. And even though boxing is more multidimensional than just about all of these sports, I don't think it is as unique many here suggests. Football and wrestling are probably as multi-dimensional and MMA clearly more so. But I do think boxing stands out in one aspect. The leap that football made in the late 80's, early 90's and golf made in the late 90's seems to me to have come in a way in the 20's and 30's in boxing. I do believe that the coming of more scientific nutrition and supplements etc has made a difference, but not as paradigm as what happened in the 20's and 30's. As for the thread, I think Louis would have done very well in the 90's. I would favour Tyson over him prime for prime (not post-prison Mike, though), and perhaps Bowe and Lewis (Holyfield probably more less 50-50), but he would be a favourite over the rest IMO. But it is very, very hard to know for sure.
Wow ! This is one of most ridiculous things i ever read...Evander Headbutt Holyfield is an idiot... He couldn't even flatten an aged and fat Foreman....lol
Joe Louis would have beaten all of Evanders Victor's and Evander should have watched video's of John Ruiz and Bowe if he thought it was so helpful. Nobody ever said Evander was the smartest man in the world
Holyfield has nothing to beat Louis with. He isnt a big enough puncher to trade with Louis and he isn't as quick as Ali to outbox Louis. Louis would win, everytime
Most of the other sports have become alot more popular & trainers getting better and technology helping althletes improve as well , where the oppsite is true of boxing , a lot less gyms , a lot less fights for the boxers , the best not fighting the best , a lot less trainers etc...

If I was working in Holyfields corner I would be a little bit worried by the following comment: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Really surprised at Holyfield for some of those comments, to be honest. I do accept that some of it was taken out of context probably though. But still, there are significant flaws in his logic. Sprinting and boxing cannot be directly compared for one thing. Sprinting is a sport where one relies almost exclusively on athleticism to win, whereas boxing has far greater depth and many more variables to consider, especially intangibles. Holyfield himself should know that better than anyone, considering he was physically outmatched by a fair proportion of fighters he faced, yet he made it close or prevailed through a combination of physical talent, heart and guts. The other flaw in his logic (to my mind) is that boxers get better and better with each generation. Is this true? That would mean that by now, there would be a multitude of welterweights better than Sugar Ray Robinson, or a multitude of lightweights that by now are better than Duran. Needless to say, that's a total laugh. Also about Louis' footwork...it may not have been flashy or always particularly effective against the fleet-footed types, but it worked for him. Considering his success in the ring, I think it's a fact beyond dispute.
People just don't like to say anything bad about louis... let's be honest here though... Holy is spot on.... Louis is a slow plodder with little to no foot movement what so ever. What is wrong with his statement. Sure his video tape comment was kinda dumb... but really... louis is slow and predictable with his movements.
