One thing I have learned is that the older fighters get, the more off the wall their comments get. SRL would have beat down Canelo at 154lbs. I think a lot of older fighters try to show a little to much respect to this new age of fighters. It's nice that they are showing respect, but the older fighters were just cut from a different cloth for the most part.
I m not ok wiz de 152 catchw8 , fak Ray Leonard , fak "de sin" . If diz 2 lbs of excess draining / dehydration wud not hev meterd , den Floyd wud not hev dimanded it
Oh really? Lol a 5' 10" fighter who barely started at 140 and went up as high as Super Middleweight, would have fought Canelo at 154 no problem? Tell us more about how this career Welterweight would have taken more chances at 154 than a career Super Featherweight. Not to mention Leonard at his 5th weight class did ask for Lalonde, a Light Heavyweight, to come down to 168 for Lalonde's 175 WBC belt and the vacant 168 WBC title. But yeah, Leonard in what would have been his 3rd weight class 154, would have fought at the full limit no problem.
To JasonHensley first post: I think that is way off base. Just shows that SRL and many fighters think the way many fans might not want them too. No different than the clowns who go on and on about Floyd or others cherry picking when past ATGs have said they did the same thing. People criticized Floyd for only fighting for money when he changed to the Money moniker. Yet, the great SRR has been on tape saying that he only continued fighting because of money. Funny thing is, minus the possible flashy act Floyd has, my guess is SRR would have been another Floyd fighting in the money game of boxing today. I doubt he would have had 3/4 the career he had if he fought in today's gluttony of sport wealth. He would have been like Floyd fighting for money and Tyson losing it all on indulgence and manipulation by others.
Okay, SRL was a welterweight, then a middleweight. Donny Lalonde was a Light Heavyweight. That was the only Light Heavyweight title that SRL ever won! As SRL said, it was contested at 168 pounds. There was a much bigger weight difference between SRL and Lalonde then there is with Mayweather and Canelo. And the difference is that Mayweather already holds a Light Middleweight Title! Mayweather has already competed at the 154 limit many times before and had success. SRL never competed at the 175 limit because he was too small. Some of what SRL says is true, but he is trying to equte the situation between him and Lalonde with Mayweather vs Canelo! The two situations are not similar at all!! SRL might have been hurt by Lalonde if the fight was at the normal 175 lb limit. They made Lalonda come down in weight, and it drained him and SRL won. That's not to take anything away from SRL's performance. He had a great night and it was a monumental victory, but lets be honest about what actually happened there and why that situation was completely different from Mayweather's 152 lb demand. SRL Lalonde was fought at an actual catch weight of 168. that's an actual standard weight limit. 152 lbs is not a standard weight limit. 168 pounds became the super middleweight division and Leonard proceeded to fight Hearns (the 2nd fight) and Duran again both for "super" middleweight titles. That catch weight for Leonard and Lalonde actually made sense. this thing with Mayweather is nothing like that at all, because Mayweather already holds a 154 lb title. i think it actually shows that Mayweather is very worried about this fight with Canelo much like SRL was worried about Lalonde's punching power. In that way it is similar.
So Now Sugar is saying this is what I would've Done..and ppl on here are saying he wouldn't wtf is wrong with you ppl?? The Man is saying he would ask for catch weight!!! he said it himself...how the **** are u going to disagree with him on what he said he would do??? atschatsch didn't he have a few catch weight fights?? didn't he Drained a 168 pound fighter?? for his title?
