Is 50 cents a bad promoter or is he being blackballed?

Gamboa has sold his legacy short.

being a boxing promoter is not something you can do as a hobby. to be successful you have to make it your life and surround yourself with professionals who share the dedication to that life.
the dogs in that yard are way too big for you to just walk in and take their bones.

Bottom line, Fitty doesn't want to actually "promote," he just wants to be able to say he is a "promoter."

If he wanted to promote fights, he'd be putting together cards, renting arenas and busting his fanny to draw crowds.

Fitty is to promoting what David Haye now is to heavyweight fighting -- Haye wants to be considered a contender, he wants to do the talking, he wants to be HANDED a title shot ... but he doesn't actually, you know, FIGHT.

Mr. Cent wants to be called a pormoter, he wants to be on TV like a promoter, he wants Hbo or Showtime to HAND him TV dates and big money to put on fights ... but he doesn't actually, you know, PROMOTE fights.

He's just paying his dues like anyone else. It takes YEARS in this game to be a relevant promoter. I think expectations are too high. It's like he's expected to be on that GBP/Top rank level. He can only hope to get to that Dibella/Main Events/Gary Shaw level first.

    It's a combination of:

    1) Not knowing what he's doing

    and

    2) Antagonizing the biggest players in the game from jumpstreet.

    both

50 Cent is way in over his head, if he cared at all for his boxers, and their livelihoods, he would release them from their contracts for free....

So they can sign up where they will be able to work to support their families.

He went against, Floyd, Oscar, and Haymon. Three of the most powerful figures in boxing today. I don't think he's being blackballed because Arum will do business with him. Arum is a powerful figure in boxing and as long nothing changes between them, 50 will be relevant in boxing for now.

The guy took a dump on the #1 promotional outfit in the game along with the #1 Boxer in the game who is joined at the hip with the same promotional outfit. His fighters individually either got beaten or burned bridges even before he stepped on the scent. He is now eating a huge plate of crow with a helping of humble pie.

If feel bad for his fighters as I would like to see more of Gamboa and Dirrell, but they didn't help the situation. :conf

@theflyest - This is beyond paying dues. He was perfectly positioned to prosper and proceeded to crap on every single one of his connections. He made and ended a career in rap doing the same.

At this point it is either a horrible miscalculation or a pathological character flaw.

50 might be able to better reach the CASUAL boxing fan. He'll do alright. Just takes a bit.

FYI, I actually found out about Gamboa because of 50 Cent promoting.

50 knows as much about promoting as Khan knows about staying upright.
