I run a boxing podcast each week and after Tysons last fight, we had Peter on the show who was absolutely livid with him. Peter wasnt allowed in the country due to visa problems and couldnt coach him, leading to Tyson brawling instead of boxing. Peter Fury was adamant that Tyson was a great technical boxer but hasnt showed it yet due to him not being in his corner after the latest training camp. So my question is - should we believe Peter and is Tyson actually a lot more skilled than we think?
He showed against Johnson he can box to a game plan and show discipline but no I don't think he has any more "skills" than he is judged to have. A decent jab and reasonable movement for a big man, he's certainly not in possession of anything more than decent skills though. He's not as athletic as the Klits and doesn't have the same array of punches or angles as a David Haye. Although he boxed like a mong in his last fight, anyone that has seen his previous fights will be aware that he is better than he showed that night. Not THAT much better though.
If he was "utter shite" he wouldnt have beaten Cunningham, Chisora or Johnson. He's top 10 and could probably snag a title at some point but he definitely won't be "the man"
He's not the finished article by any stretch.Heavyweights, particularly the big box-puncher types like Wlad and Lennox dont hit their peak until their late 20's to early 30's.
Always bothers me when trainers give reasons for boxers not showing their full talent whereas in training they look like the second coming e.g. when the opponent is better his fighter will be better. Fury's biggest assest is also his worst, his heart. I think haye chins him pretty badly but it will take an old school hayemaker to chin him cos fury does get up from some brutal shots. Fury has decent skills but he has fought alot of crude opponents for those skills to be showcased against.
He's clearly not and he is still young, infact very young for a heavyweight and people seem to forget this. If he can continue to improve he's definately a British World champ of the future...and he's got a decent era to be able to accomplish it in.
Johnson is nothing but a talker, Cunningham was outweighed via many stones and gave up tons of height and Chisora is not even a poor man's Fraiser!
Well Johnson isn't the wost, he's above domestic British level for sure, Chisora gave Vitali a good fight, Cunningham should have got the nod over Adamek who is considered a top heavyweight. Its not like all the Klitschko's fights with smaller men simply don't count.
I'm not sure he is now. Everytime Chisora through punches he rocked Fury, the problem was he was that out of shape he could only manage one flurry around. I'd love to see a rematch where Chisora comes to the ring in the same sort of shape he fought Helenius, Vitali & Haye. All his own fault for been a fat, lazy twat though.
