The sport of Boxing has seen a resurgence over the past few years..when at the time(2005-06) some analysts thought that boxing won't be a mainstream sport within some years...boxing ppv's have been outselling ufc ppv's by miles Floyd Mayweather jr is the biggest name in the sport today..should he be credited with boxing's resurgence?
theres one guy who has the most ppv selling over 1 million, ever. he probably had a little to do with it.
Don't give him all the credit. I think boxing has become more appealing internationally. It is no longer dominated by Americans, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans. Pacquiao has brought his legions of fans, who if nothing else promote him online. Europe is as strong as ever. Boxing is becoming global and that's good for the sport. Yeah I know those other countries have been there but now they're getting the credit they deserve.
Boxing resurgence in America, Mexico and Puerto Rico: Mayweather, Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao, Marquez, Canelo. Boxing resurgence in Europe: Calzaghe, Klitschkos, Hatton, Kessler, Haye.
Yes FMJ absolutely deserves credit for boxing's resurgence. you're right that in 2005-2006 boxing was really on life support, and DLH - Mayweather really started a great momentum surge for boxing. it's not all him, but he's leading the way and had some of the biggest fights. He started HBO show 24/7, and although that show got stale over time, at the time it was really cool and really got you pumped for the fight, especially the one against Hatton. Boxing is one sport that has actually gotten better over the past 5-10 years, and a lot of that has to do with Mayweather. for being flamboyant and charismatic and getting you to either love him or hate him with shenanigans.
quite the opposite for killing the sport and refusing to capitalize on the world wide interest in what could have been the greatest matchup in 30 yrs.
Pac was just as big, fighter of the decade, boxing did just fine when floyd retired he didnt expect that
