Thanx man. You know what, I can watch fights now in 40" HD and surround sound, but they'll never be as intense as crowding round that little 14" B&W to watch the olympics or those early Tyson fights.
It is war...war hurts us all brother. My best buddy killed several in Iraq an Iran and he is still ****ed up. My good friend now is from Iran but has been in USA 15 yrs. I don't hold him accountable for other actions except his own. We all live and learn.:smoke
100% yes. I remember staying up to watch Naseem Hamed, Bruno, Tyson etc (I was born in 83) I am hoping my passion will get my child to love it too!
My dad played sport professionally but hated to watch them. My mom was the sport fan of the two. He would watch parts of big events like the World Cup and really big fights but nothing else.
I remember that fight. We had an outside toilet. I went for a pee, came back and the fight was over! I hated Hagler then, but became a huge fan of his later.
I think my dad watching boxing on tv had an influence on me, yes. He also bought boxing gloves for my brother and me. I remember hitting my brother and his head breaking the door handle. The gloves seemed to disappear after that! Boxing always fascinated me for some reason. I like other sports but if it's a choice between a big fight and anything else, boxing wins!
19 August 1995 Mike Tyson versus Peter McNeely, I was only 10 years old and probably the only kid awake at 4 am in a small city in Germany, my mother got up with me because she thought I shouldnt be up at that time by myself. My father didnt care about boxing enough to get up in the middle of the night, we never watched a fight together as far as I can remember. That is my earliest boxing memory.
NO, my old man didn't like boxing at the time. what got me into boxing was meeting herol bomber graham at his ex wifes house in Skegness when I was about 11 1986. I sparred for a laugh with him in her kitchen then went for a drive in his car (think it was a porshe) it was black and had gold writing all over it. I remember sitting in the passenger seat and some training gloves were on the floor at my feet and had to try them on and they came upto my elbow. awesome day
NO, my uncle did. I used to be obsessed with Rocky movies when I was like 6 Watching them day and night. All 5 of them, in an endless loop. He came to visit one day, and he asked what I was doing, and I replied "watching boxing". He came in and told me to cut it off. He then told me that it wasnt boxing. We then watched Morales Barrera 1 live. And I pretty much fell in love with the sport. Sometime I cover my whole body up in Vaseline and crawl around the house pretending to be a slug when no one is around. I haven't stopped watching boxing since
Oh yes. When I was about three or four, my dad used to get on his knees and let me flail away at him. It continued until I was big enough to cause a welt or two under his eyes. After the 'sparring' stopped, I found his rather extensive Ring magazine collection and would spend hours and hours reading them. I often wonder what became of them, because they're gone. I also remember my first boxing memory (besides the sparring) was watching an Ali fight with my dad, on the sofa. So yeah, my dad was instrumental in getting me interested in the sport. Oddly enough though, he always strongly discouraged me from giving the sport a go for real. I had to hide my boxing from him because he strongly disapproved, and even when he did find out, he never supported me.
