Anybody else sick of this rubbishLatvian Hungarians Lithuanians etc that are embarrassingly bad If they aren't good enough standard to get a licence here they shouldn't be allowed to fight our prospects In fact I would say that unless they are considerably better than our journeymen then they shouldn't be involved in these mismatches I know their cheap and it's hard to afford a show without cutting corners,just please try something different other than these terrible fights.they must win about one percent of fights their involved in here,they come In terrible physical shape with no offensive game This is My biggest gripe with British boxing,is anybody with me on this we need to find an alternative because these 'learning' fights are poor for fans and the prospect
Boxing is probably the most ruthless 'free market' run sport in the world. Unless you want to address that issue, you will get no where. But be warned if you got your 'wish' (more State control), then you could open Pandora's Box, to those in the State who do not want the sport in this Country...
I'd be interested to know what sort of money these Eastern European journeymen are getting paid in comparison to British journeymen. I thought the UK guys are lucky to get £500 so surely after flying these euros in paying for their hotel and paying them there isn't much difference?
Well, for a start, they are guaranteed to turn up. I've heard horror stories from promoters where they pitch british journeymen in with a prospect only to get a phone call at the 11th hour to say that the journeyman cant fight. Usually, it's a valid excuse like he has to work or something similar. But how can a promoter build a show on that basis? Pay a Latvian a few hundred quid though and he's defintely going to show up. Flights/accomodation wont be expensive. At all. Lets say there's a show in Dagenham and you want to use a British journeyman from say Tyneside. Then it'll probably take about 4 1/2 hours travel time and the return train fare will cost about £130. Fighter will be expected to cover his own expenses, so that British fighter is getting about £370 of that £500 he gets paid (less tax, corner money etc which it will be up to him to sort). You can get a flight from Latvia to UK for £19. Kip on someone's couch. Done. Agree to pay his flights, give him £200. Everyone's happy. This isnt the only reason this happens. Alot of the time, there is an understanding that they are poor opponents, simply as a confidence boost or they know the score and will come over for a payday. Lots of other factors too. But dont underestimate how cheap they can be. Particularly if your bringing say three or four over rather than using Brits... I get what the OP's saying, but this isnt nearly as commonplace as it was about 6+ years ago in my view anyway. Much less of an issue these days.
