Round 5 Vassell is pushing the pace, forcing his left jab into Gavin's line of sight. Counter right jab and laser southpaw 1-2 from Gavin. Vassell bullies Gavin to the ropes, off which Gavin bounces his back to spring past Vassell. Sidestep by Vassell, cutting off his escape route. Gavin leans in and ties up. Both work their free gloves to the body. Big left hook by Vassell, missing as Gavin jerks away. Vassell follows through with a right hand launched up from the hip and taps Gavin on the nose with it. Gavin is pushed to the ropes, where Vassell goes to work on his body with powerful uppercuts. Gavin is slipping punches and holding on. Gavin dives in, crossing his arms on Vassell's pecs and then looking over them for a peekaboo left hand lead. 10-9 Vassell, extremely close round with lots of momentum swings 48-47 Gavin
I hope Gavin gets knocked out here, signs are good as Denton lands a nice punch at the end of that round. 3-2 Boring Gavin.
Round 6 Vassell is throwing up-jabs and clubbing rights as he crabs into Gavin. Lead lefts on the back foot by Gavin. Light right jabs doubled and tripled downstairs by Gavin as he bends and unbends his knees, diving in to hold frequently. Uppercut to the flank by Vassell. Forceful jab thrust into the face by Vassell, head rolling safely between a wide-split 1-2 from Gavin. Vassell now turns southpaw and keeps dropping the right jab on Gavin, hooking off it and pushing Gavin into the ropes. Back to orthodox for Vassell. Left jabs nearly corner Gavin. Lead left by Gavin, blocked. Clinch. Overhand left by Gavin, picked off by Vassell's right knuckle pad. Jabs from a turtle shell by Vassell, marching Gavin across the ring. Glancing left by Gavin, planting his feet and catching Vassell coming to him. 10-9 Vassell 57-57
Believe it or not, this isn't the most negative I've seen an opponent behave against Vassell. Bethuel Ushona. :barf
Round 7 Lots and lots of clinching. Gavin flurries while propelling out. Vassell is missing left hooks hoping to catch Gavin defenseless. Lunging right jabs from outside by Gavin. Ugly round. 10-9 Gavin 67-66 Gavin
I remember that fight too! It was waste of time. And if I remember right Ushona thought he won the fight
Dunno how you can score rounds apart from perhaps round six in Vassells favour, he couldn't hit Gavin and was constantly caught clean and countered, he only caught Gavin cleanly once in the whole fight.
It's over!! Gavin takes it, RTD7. Vassell was stopped in the corner by a doctor's inspection. Gavin broke his jaw with a left hand!
They showed a replay of the left suspected of breaking Vassell's jaw. It was on the button, thrown over Vassell's lazy jab, but didn't look particularly devastating. Vassell also didn't seem to be in mortal agony during the aftermath. Overzealous doc, premature diagnosis? :think
Gavin's power is kind of sneaky that way, though. The Welborn stoppage also didn't look that bad. I know he's lower in class, but even so.
