Pointless matchup apart from the money. Ward is stylistically all wrong for Froch and the rematch wouldn't be much different or any more entertaining. I'd rather see Froch fight some others: A Kessler part 3, Golovkin, Froch moving to LH and fighting some guys there. Froch can still make some other fights that will be much more entertaining and still bring loads of money in, rather than losing to a one-sided UD to Ward.
Why doesnt Ward go to Canada and fight Bute??? Showtime still has an option on both fighters, and and it's 2 million for the tv rights alone. Bute draws no less than 16K in Canada, and Ward would likely get 50% of the gate and could even talk himself into the Canadian PPV $$$$. Styleswise, Froch was way wrong for Bute, but Ward is a completely different fighter in that his style is more crudish infighting ala Bika. Bute's footwork got him in and out while mixing his shots upstairs then down. It made him #4 in the SMW division.....#1 before his Froch fight, #4 after his Knottingham meltdown. Ward has never fought a guy with Butes body attack, SP stance, and raw power. The end result is a given IMO....Bute by late KO....but Im certain there are only maybe 10% of the rest of the world who would share that sentiment. Bute is the only top SMW who Ward has not fought/beat. Bute is a big $$$ fighter. Why does Ward refuse this fight.:think:think:think
Agree on Bute. The same way Ward was all wrong for Froch, the same for Froch on Bute. Bute is a very skilled boxer that still has alot to offer. He would pose Ward a much different threat and viceaversa. Bute has the skill and power to tag Ward and Ward hasn't got that Brutish strength and power that will have Bute out early. Would be a great match up, unfortunately, some match ups are never meant to be. I just hope that Froch doesn't opt for a Ward rematch, or Bute a Froch rematch.
I don't know for Ward but Showtime dropped its option on Bute last year. Bute has a bigger money fight (and a way to regain some credibility) with Pascal. If he wins, Ward-Bute could be an option.
The loser Carl Froch has to come to the winners turf and beat him. The winner Ward is in the drivers seat. This is especially true since Ward so easily beat Froch.
I suppose nothing's fair in boxing today (HBO, Showtime, GBP, Arum) but if Froch went to the States to fight Ward, shouldn't Ward come to the UK to fight Froch? Hold on a minute, it doesn't work like that, does it?
While interviewed for Sky ringside @ Golovkin vs. Macklin, he said (quite correctly) that while he is receptive to a Froch rematch he necessarily must be treated as the A-side in any negotiations, because he is the one in the position of power despite what Froch draws at the gate. He is the one who comprehensively beat Froch (the only man to ever do so, in fact) and doesn't need to be ordered about by a guy who desperately wants a chance at redemption but whom he doesn't really need with the option of climbing up to 175 there for him if big opportunities don't emerge at 168. It's hardly as though history will frown upon there not being a rematch. The first result was unambiguous and didn't really demand one.
