David Price vs. Tony Thompson II - "REDEMPTION" (build up and prediction thread)

The Fury/Haye winner likely won't get a shot at Wlad as by that point I suspect Pulev will be his mandatory or he'll fight someone in the top twenty.

Haye/Price intrigues me as does a fit Chisora/Fury.

 

Id rather see Price-Fury not that Fury will get passed Haye.

 

Thompson by ko. But I really hope I'm wrong.

 

I think Price will do it. He'll box smart, keeping Thompson at bay until he tires and then just pick him off.

 

That's obviously going to be the plan.

The thing is people might be underestimating the Tiger's fitness - don't forget he nearly went the distance with Wlad the 1st time around.

I also think if Price plays the long patient game, he will surely get tagged a couple of times as he won't have learnt to become a defensive specialist within 3 months.

The question is when he does get tagged will go down again like last time or was it a fluke?

 

I got 7/2 at BetVictor a few days ago. I had 50 on it. I'm desperate for Price to win but surely Thompson will land one punch harder than the cuff he did last time, and when he lands that punch...?

Anyway. Come on Pricey!

 

Really want Price to do it but I keep seeing the way he looked completely clueless when he realised Thompson wasn't going to be stood right in front of him for him to hit. Not that Thompson had any great movement himself - just look at the shape he came in to the fight in!

Also, the way Price held that arm out in a static paw like motion akin to Wlad but far less effectivley tells you he's not a guy who is confident about his chances if he gets hit.

Heart says Price, head says Thompson unless Price can get through with a cluster whilst not receiving anything back in return.

 

Hope price wins, never meet anybody with a bad word to say about price top bloke.

 

My thinking exactly, I think Price will just try to box smart and keep out of the way. but i fear his chin is bad, not herbie hide bad who went over from the breeze of a punch, but bad enough

 

Price and Khan have similar issues, they both don't necessarily have really bad chins as they usually get up after being decked, it's their legs, when they both take a hard punch, even in a stupid place like behind the ear with Price or the neck with Khan, they lose their senses and their legs go. They might have their wits about them mentally but they do a chicken dance and can't control their legs and therefore will always be stopped by the ref, Price and Khan should be working on themselves from the ground upwards strengthening their legs and their neck muscles. The shot that caught Price was really just a glancing punch, it wasn't a venomous punch or even a particularly hard shot, that's what makes me think he is in big trouble. If a shot like that can take you out you are in the brown stuff fighting a big seasoned HW in Thompson that can bang a bit.

Prices best tactics are not to throw anything much at all going forward, counter punch only, he doesn't have the skills going forward against someone with decent movement and if he leaves himself open it's lights out. He should be trying to walk Thompson on to a big shot, I don't think Price can outbox him behind the jab without getting caught himself for 12 rounds so if I were him I'd be looking for a big punch of my own. Price can finish and if he gets Thompson hurt he may well put him away with perhaps a slight British stoppage. That's a more likely outcome then Price out boxing Thompson over 12 rounds in my eyes, Price hasn't ever gone 12 and he's more a puncher than a boxer, Thompson has the superior skills in all but power but isn't that far behind him though in that category either. He also has the mental edge from the first fight, that will be huge, maybe Price is a Bruno, a nice guy that lacks the killer edge.

 

Does anyone know if this fight will be showen in Canada ? If so what channel ? Over here on holiday and this would be a great way to start Sat night.

 

Price will have to fight a perfect fight to beat Thompson, who is the best American heavyweight. I give Price a fairly good chance to beat Thompson if he can fight the perfect fight. It all depends on what he learned from Lewis.............however, if Thompson beats him again, I will not be surprised.

 

Just watched the weigh in, David Price 17st 12lbs/250lbs. 3 lbs heavier than last fight but looks in great shape. Tony Thompson 18st 7lbs/259lbs. 3lbs lighter than last time, hard to tell what shape he was in as he kept his t-shirt on.

I'm going for tompson neither had warmed up last fight before the KO. I see the south paw stance and the better movement of Tony being too much for price. Price has thought domestic level fighters all his career and as soon as he went up against a supposedly shot thompson it was curtains.

I do want price to Win but realistically your up against a genuine class hw who is a south paw with a impeccably good record who has already KOd u. Thompson is blatantly a clever bloke with good ring iq

Lennox can't fight for him.
