So where should he go from here ?

My suggestion would be to become a paid sparring partner for a year or two , gain experience sparring loads of different fighters and build some real ring stamina , try and have fights against some decent opposition , ie Chisora , Helenius , Towers , Browne , guys that will give him a good fight and wont just fall over with the first punch.

I also think he needs to decide on who is main trainer is Lewis or whoever as he looked distracted with Lewis in the crowd.

His main problem is that he wasn't in good enough condition and being SO nervous compounded that. He looked so nervous and that would've burnt so much energy. No professional athlete should ever look so tired, so early in whatever their competative distance may be - 12 rounds, 90 minutes etc

Exactly, he needs a good shrink and someone who is going sort out his conditioning. Easier said than done, but many have comeback from such disappointments. And a 6' 8" offensive machine is always going to attract a bit of attention.

Do you not think that lack of conditioning is more to do with the lack of professional rounds he has fought ?

I agree he was nervous and i think distracted by the presence of Lewis ringside but surely the best method of training for price has to be sparring sessions

It's amazing how integral the mind is. Look at fighters like Lewis and Hearns. Different fighters with the same body but different mindset would've let ko losses ruin them, fight differently etc

Lewis and Hearns suffered some brutal ko's but they never became runners as or scared of big fights as a result.

I've always said that coaching is incredibly easy. Not much special about teaching technique or compiling a strategy. Getting the fighter to have confidence, heart, execute that strategy etc is incredibly difficult.

The truth is, every one around Price failed to prepare him correctly physically and mentally.

I'd put him in with someone like Sprott, went the distance and did well Vs Helenius. Would be a half decent win for David if he blows him out early. Confidence booster.

Or maybe Edmund Gerber? A easy nights work against a fellow prospect.

No, it was too early in the fight. He just wasn't fit enough. Late in the fight then you can discuss how he paced himself, lack of experience etc

It never seizes to amaze me how many boxers enter the ring not even close to being the best they can be. Plus, alot of them spar a shockingly low amount because they are scared of mileage. Not everyone can develop a great engine from running and gym work.

Price is well built, big, strong, powerful and to devastating effect but I'd rather be confident that I can go a hard 12.

I wonder how much sparring he has actually done ? Cause most of the training footage you see he is hitting bags or shadow boxing.

Is it not very hard for heavyweights to find decent sparring partners ? plus the costs involved.

  10. I thought this
Now I'm far from an expert but I box amateur level and bag work for me
Is frustrating it serves no purpose other than conditioning then I like it

Sparring pads stamina and groundwork are the core things I work on and enjoy working on
A big man like him hitting the heavy bag is no good for footwork, defence or even really technique.bag work for me is only good for finding my range and balance

I anticipate somebody telling me I'm wrong and why,I hope they do because I've always had this opinion

Yes its that old chesnut , you can hit bags all day but bags dont hit back.

James Toney used to train mostly by doing the speed bag and sparring he never really stood and hammered bags.

Can see them possibly making a fight with Chisora, would be east enough to make, on that diabolical showing last night I'd fancy Chisora heavily to win

wouldn't be surprised if Sprott got to him late be he would be up for it and fancy his chances. Price wont want that just yet. As said before lots of hard sparing he was tanked by 3 rounds that doesn't bode well. Shame liked him :)

Chisora would just bide his time and wait until he gasses.

Chisora/Thompson would be excellent for the build up alone.
