After last night, is it safe to say that Silva is past his prime at 38?

No. Nothing looked different. He got taken down, he got up, he clowned, he got away with it once or twice but finally he was made to pay big time for it. He continued to clowned after being caught and by the time he got put away I think he was leaning back so much he was just on the balls of both his feet.

Silva still has enough to come again but next time he may not try to go the "I'll outtalent and clown you route" but rather employ a strategy like keeping his distance, staying on his feet, timing big punches to close the show, take the fight late etc

na. when he wasnt clowning and acting the foo, you could see glimpes of the genius in there. when chris had the audacity to try the belfort crane kick, andason retorted with some crazy crescent kick, straight outta da mooveez

he was matrixing pretty effectively too, but he was in there with a great fighter, not the usual overawed bum he can get away with clowning to. he never clowned with vitor or henderson cause he viewed them as legit threats. he made the mistake of underestimating weidman, and got humiliated for it

hes not shot though, not by a long shot

age may in fact be catching up w him, it happened to wanderlei, fedor and liddel. aging is inevitable and when you clown like that you're bound to get caught. like other fighters like roy jones jr, after so many shots over the years their chins start to break down. perhaps silvas chin is on its way out as well. if not, its a damn shame that he got knocked out acting like a clown.

Yes Silva is done. Sure he may kick the **** outta another few fighters. However, all tops guys rip him to pieces. Some by KO some by grinding him over a decision. Silva is so yesterday. I love him. Awesome. So done. Everyone training and sparring with him knew it. Power and the stamina went just enough. He tried to MASK it with raw talent of mind and body. He did it better than any. Now its over. Expect guys fighting Silva from now on use that Chael like blueprint BUT with STRIKING unlike Chael. Expect guys to rush Silva ACCEPTING to take a hit on their angle of choice not his just to have a better chance of clicking him. Trust that nobody has been bringing this confidence to Silva. That will change. Now Silva has to deal with his opponents not FLINCHING as much at all times overall. He is finished. Expect him to also be submitted if he tries to continue.

He was awesome. However, he is totally done. Expect this guy to end up in a Brazilian ghetto with no cash shytin himself completely insane muttering he is trapped in the matrix and weedman is comin for his spirit

Things will not go well for this wonderful fella

I don't think he's shot. Jumping to the conclusion that a superstar striker is shot because of one loss is a bit premature. He's got a host of spectacular wins (which might I add, the majority of them looked easy) and one recent loss due to a miscalculation.

Wiedman got a lucky shot, Silva still looked like a significantly crisper and faster striker.

It's easy to jump to premature conclusions, especially since many were turned off by his antics - but he's definitely far from shot.

I would agree on the following points:
    - his fanfare has definitely taken a hit
    - his age (although not a factor now) means he has a very narrow window to re-establish his legacy
    - his 'desire' to win may be in question

But saying he's "done" because he made one bad miscalculation....a little too early i think.

One little miscalculation? His chin IMPLODED from a jab?? yeah yeah sure it connected at the right angle and caught him flush off guard blah blah, tell me, was that a BIG SHOT or a not so big shot that knocked Silva down and maybe out before the canvas blow? To me that shot is not a big shot. Silva dropped like a hookers pants. Why? Think Fedor? Its the chin. Well the mind. Not like the thinking mind, I mean the organics of the mind. The fibres of the brain SLOOSHES about inside our skulls. Once a specific level of neuro damage occours the BRAIN automatically shuts off QUICKER to protect itself naturally for whatever reasons of instinct. Thus you get ROCKED to a degree that leaves some minor damage to yee mind and next time you get rocked you AUTOMATICALLY shut down FASTER. It ain't heart. Its ELECTRICITY in the nerves being SHUT OFF and rebooted.

This pattern I am describing is well documented. It works one way only. Good chin to bad chin. Thus it don't ever start out bad then take a beating and get good. One way only. Plus with remaining sustained damage one will suffer more from FLASH KNOCK DOWNs witch in MMA is a death sentence. Now I could be wrong but it appeared Silva has a pronounced case of GLASS JAW from total accumulated damage much of witch can occour in high level sparring more than is often mentioned. Word from within the Silva camp is he been getting clipped a few times in sparring acting up like he ain't getting hurt while dkinf chicken legs thinking he is foolin everyone

In my opinion a chin only implodes like that when a fighter is finally done and his cerebral core keeps misfiring.

You could litterly hit Silva with a bag of marshmallows and he would drop like a drunken kangaroo on rollar skates.

    He's done.

It's a reasonable theory. But still very speculative.

How do you know he didn't ALWAYS have a glass jaw, but managed to protect it with superior defense and offense? We haven't seen him take too many clean shots to the face before.

Again, it's quite possible you're right. But the ease in which he handled almost all of his opposition in recent years (exception Sonnen v. Silva part 1) tells me he's still a very dangerous man.
