How come you are in a tiny minority who thinks these things, Tommo? I accept that none of these arguments can be proved either way, because the fights you mention can never happen, but still!

You keep on about size, but then rave about Haye who is a pumped up cruiserweight. You contradict yourself so many times! Now if you said Ali, Holmes, Foreman etc were great and so were Holyfield and Lewis, I'd have no quarrel with that; it's the belittling of former champs that riles me.

As to the original question, I would pick Ali or Louis as the best, but I rate Holyfield highly and Lewis was excellent, too. You do make some fair points regarding Ali regarding his holding behind the head, though. I also agree that Ali is fair game for criticism and some people think he isn't.

 

Strong cases can be made for Ali or Louis at #1, Louis' dominance cannot be understated. On a side note, I'd favor Ali over Louis in a fight in their respective primes. I think Ali's footwork and handspeed would've been too much for the Brown Bomber.

i think it's safe to assume that people who aren't even boxing fans know quite a bit about Ali. i'm a hardcore boxing fan so i'm very clued up about him.
