During the negotiation period for David Haye vs. Tyson Fury, I saw a lot of people commenting that they were excited about the prefight buildup. Fewer posters seem to think it's going to be a compelling, competitive fight. So which do you look forward to more, all the hype and trash talk and whatnot that will lead up to this fight or the actual fight itself?
I can't believe the hype around this fight. Everyone tells me how **** Fury is. Yet over the last couple of weeks more and more folk are getting sucked in. Including myself. No longer is this about how quickly Haye will bash him up, now it is about the problems Fury can pose and maybe even more than that. The failings that Fury has are fairly obvious but thus far he has found a way. Those of us who have defended Fury are beginning to get a bit of a squeaky bum in case he makes a liar out of us and the same is true for the same reason for those that slag him off. That will feed the hype I'm sure. In the cold light of day Haye should win this and win it handily but there are so many of us that are invested in both fighters that it will be the hype that gets us every time. And that isn't wrong. That is what has made a fairly flawed fighter a box office hit.
Haye vs. Fury is a perfect storm for building interest and hyping a fight. It will get stupid, it will get silly, it will get ridiculous, but it won't get dull.
I don't think Tyson will win this fight but I do think he could become boxing's biggest super star. He can take a good photo (no homo) He's a giant He's got no fear He's an entertainer He's got a great back story He's a wildcard but he's clean living.
Fury can recover from a punch extremely well, and he has stamina. Remember, Haye was knocked out by a cruiserweight, and became a total coward when he got into a ring with Vlad.............
Fury can't lose. 1 its about the biggest pay day he can get 2 Haye is one of the Uk's best fighters and 3 Fury is 24 plenty of time to re group if he loses
I think it will be a great fight and, if Fury doesn't box like a twat (like he did early on against Cunningham) and get sparked, I could see him picking up a points win over Haye.
I'm one of those guys who doesn't care much for a "buildup". Most is nothing but cringeworthy crap anyway. Sometimes a guy comes up with a line or gimmick that makes me laugh, but the witty remarks are pretty scarce these days. The fight (if it ever happens) I'm pretty interested in though. Everything indicates that Fury will get dropped a couple of times until the ref thinks it's been enough. Fury's weakness completely collides with Haye's strength in this one and I would be pretty surprised if we get any other outcome. Unless... Haye either refuses to engage again (like in the past against big HW's), or the ref lets the fight come to it's natural conclusion and Fury walks him down at the end after being dropped a couple of times. So there are scenarios to think of that can win Fury the fight, only I think that's about a 20% chance.
I don't care for the hype. Often makes boxing look more like WWE and builds itself up for a bigger fall when the fight disappoints. Makes the sport come across as being a bit desperate that a fight needs OTT hype or controversy to sell it. Seems very transparent at times.
He's never had a PROPER punch though from a big punching heavyweight thats why. When Haye hits him he will stay hit, its as simple as that. Fury isn't exactly quick is he, Haye will catch Fury before Fury catches haye. I will be lumping on Haye for this fight. I believe Derry mathews on twitter bet someone £100 that Fury wins. Why on earth would you take Fury at evens atsch Derry if you are reading this and offering free hand outs, can i have some please
The build ups are usually cos the matchmaking is poor, like flogging a dead horse. Most of us enjoy the sport anyway and will watch, it just to get as much money into the fight a possible.
I don't think any 'real' boxing fan will pick a couple of press conferences or twitter rants over watching a fight. But it's clear that the hype between these two celebrity-style fighters will be entertaining, certainly more so than 95% of other bouts. There's nothing wrong with enjoying it for what it is. We know the reasons for them doing it, and fair play to both the fighters and their teams, it's only gonna hurt boxing if they have a stinker of a fight, and I REALLY can't see it being boring, so let them get some interest generated. Fury is no Audley, he will bomb forward and Haye will counter away. Can't see it lasting too long but so what?!!
Haye is 1/6 on Paddy Power just now and that seems about right. Can't say any other finish than Haye KO. Really looking forward to the build and the fight.
