I agree, but they'd have to improve their stamina if it came back. There's no excuse for a pro fighter not being able to fight for 15 rounds. They did it years ago, and used to fight 10 rounders every month or so. Fighters were always in shape, bar the odd exception. It's a joke that it can't be done today with strength and conditioning coaches and the advancements in sports science etc.

How did I know that you'd come on the thread and type that? Ha!

In theory you can fight harder for 12 than 15, but some guys don't fight hard for 12.

Surely 15 rounds is better as a fan? You get to watch more boxing.

You're generalising by saying any old KO's after 12 should be written off.

You can't say that every fighter that got stopped after 12, simply lost because he was tired. That's nonsense!

I think fighters of the past were better conditioned as a whole. They fought more often and were always in shape. They didn't fight just 2 to 3 times a year and have 8-12 week camps.

There's lots of guys on here who think that modern guys would struggle to do the 15.

Could you imagine a fighter today even fighting a 10 rounder once per month?

Look at (The worlds greatest ever heavyweight) Ali (who would have beaten Wlad after 10 seconds)

He had FIVE scheduled 15 round fights in just SIX months.

I think if 15 round fights came back, then fighters would have to work harder to get in shape and improve their stamina. I know that you're all for sports science and modern technology. But it's a joke that a fighter from the 1930's was fitter than an athlete of today.

The main objections as I can see, is that people are against it because fighters today have poor stamina, and it would be 9 mins of nothing but clinching. Well, what if fighters were better conditioned, and it was 9 extra mins of fighting and entertainment?

Surely any fan would want to see that?

Why would you want to see a 12 round fight, and not a 15 round one, if both fighters were capable of fighting for 15?

The obvious downside is, they'd be more risk of someone getting hurt. Obviously I'd hate to see that happen. But the top fighters are earning millions of dollars, and we're paying high PPV prices, and generally the undercards are poor.

So I'd absolutely love to see the return of 15 round fights.

12 is long enough for me. I'd ask the boxers before I'd ask the fans, they'd be the ones getting their heads and bodies pounded in for 3 extra rounds.

15 rounds for the elite fights is a must, any unification bout rather than just any title bout because their are to many paper titles these days. Bring it back for the fights that matter.

Not entirely sure, but at the very least someone should have the common sense to make it an odd number of rounds, whether it's 13 or 15, just to make the possibility of a draw less likely. It's a lot harder for a judge to come up with a draw score in a 13 or 15 rounder than it is in a 12 rounder, with a score of 6-6.

And like Russell said, a LOT of fighters who were lucky to escape with a decision after 12 rounds would either have to dig deeper to win the fight or be shown as less elite and worthy than people think they are.

I think it would be great because it would put the toughness back into fighting a bit more and viewers would get more for their money.

well they are the ones who choose to be fighters, and the fans are the ones paying the fighters wages

I think they should have them for career defining fights. A fight like Canelo vs Mayweather would be a top candidate. Two undefeated fighters with more then 40 pro fights? That's where a 15 rounds would be great. There's less of a chance of a robbery with 15 round fights. The extra rounds really help the scorecards and also change the strategy in some cases. Lets say Malignaggi Broner was 15 rounds. If that were the case, I doubt Malignaggi would have punched himself out like he did in the early rounds. He would have better paced himself. He pretty much went into that Broner fight trying to be constantly active worried about getting the tail end of a close decision. in a 15 round fight, your whole gameplan has to change. you can't just cruise to the finish line in a 15 round fight like you can in a 12 rounder.

Hell yes. 15 rounders are better in every way. You get more bang for your buck as a fan. It also makes the fighters work harder, and in a close fight it gives you more rounds for a knockout to happen or more rounds for the judges to score.

Back when it was 15 rounds, fighters just paced themselves better.

I can live with either, 12 or 15.
The longer fight does give the less athletic fighter a better chance to close ground those last 3 rounds, and that can be brutal to even the most gifted athlete.

Instead of going back to 15 rounds I'd rather same day weighins be
    re-instituted instead.

I was under the impression fights were brought down to 12 rounds on health grounds to protect the boxers from extreme punishment / injury / brain damage
