O'Kane pro career has been a bit of a disappointment really. He looked to have a good pro style as an amateur especially in the commonwealth games where he comfortably beat Anthony Ogogo in the final, he also looked better in the WSB than he does now. As a pro he seems over eager to slug it out and often ends up over crowding his work. He's defintely better than that and is due a good performance. As a fellow Derry man I'm going to have to go for O'Kane in a close decision.

This fight has the potential to be either really good or really scrappy.

    Shame.

I would've thought British TV might've picked it up (since Hughie Fury is on the card and taking a 'step up' against the fellow who knocked Dimitrenko on his ass recently) or maybe the Aussies with Paddy Murphy on there.

Why not? O'Kane's an Irishman. Plus, this isn't a country where robberies occur.

Sort of how I thought it was viewed over there.

Our perception in the West of the enmity between North and South might be a bit inflated by the legend of movies and the like.

The boxing fraternity especially seems a place where politics and lines on a map would be looked past, and I can't recall for instance Brian Magee or the aforementioned McCloskey or such being unpopular below the border.

Add John Duddy to the list aswell. Even Boxers from unionist background such as McCullough and Frampton represented Ireland at amateur level.

Boxing in Ireland has always been a 32 county organisation with the IABA and the BUI. We're an island, especially in boxing, there are no borders.

Big bets placed on Fitzgerald to win in the 8th , down from 33/1 to 5/1 with irish bookmakers, though it is still 33/1 with sky , bet365, is the fix on?:nono

Well he has been saying he was gonna finish O'Kane by the 8th... and the fact he's never been past 8 rounds. Maybe people are believing him.

This fight should really be televised. The winner versus Spike has to be televised... especially if it's Fitz.

That is about when a sustained body attack would begin to pay off with a not ideally conditioned opponent. :think

Anyone going to be doing round by round for this show? Got some quid on Fitz/Kane and Murphy/McDonagh, and keen to know how Sutcliffe and Fury go as well. Would be very grateful considering there's no link etc

We'll have to rely on ringside updates.

I'm spending the afternoon glued to @Irishboxingcom on Twitter. :thumbsup
