Stephen Smith was a small featherweight dont know why hes boxing now at super featherweight! Buckland will be too big and strong for him and will prob grind him down and stop him around round 8 or 9, hope im wrong though im a fan of the smith brothers and would like to see them all do well.
Unfortuntely yes mate! Selby and Matthews haven't even been mentioned in the build up to this. Sky Sports News covered the weigh-in and it was just about Campbell and Brook. Selby wasn't even at the presser on Wednesday.
Wow. I mean, I was impressed with him in the amateurs like everybody but let him accomplish something in the pros before rolling out the red carpet. Olympians do sometimes go bust! Campbell, Shiming, Murata - it's like hype from the amateurs is reaching a fever pitch it hasn't in years (and not based necessarily on it being a more talented field than has come along in years). :huh
I really cant decide on what I think on this fight. Here is what we know Buckland is big he has fought for titles at lightweight and put on good performances had a good scrap with Murray for the Euro but was outgunned ultimately though was a good fight because both were come forward high volume. He doesnt have THAT much power but will THAT much be needed here? Hard to say Smith has been stopped but Selby is a machine. Smith cant fight inside Simmo gave him problems and Selby was able to negate him with his natural advantages then pick him off. Smith does have a very nice boxing repertoire and can also bang to a certain extent though many of his stoppages come at a lower level against feathers so how will his power fare against Buckland? I think we can say that Smith will have enough power to keep Buckland honest but not enough to stop him. I think Buckland is relentless and will keep coming at Smith but if and its a big IF Smith can box Buckland and earn his respect he could win a close points victory. IF Smith uses similar tactics to recent title outings he may well get worn down and stopped. Good fight.
