ignore the idiot IB, had the fight a draw, while moaning about 118-110, the irony being 118-110 was about as stupid as having a draw.
I just don't get what he is going for there? Regardless of how Selby looked, it doesn't change that Dib is very mediocre himself.
Dibs been fighting at a much higher level than Selby so to compare his performances against world ranked fighters to Selbys of British level and eurobums is quite silly.Last night was Lees first time in with somebody on the fringes of world level and he looked mediocre at best. It would be a competitive fight but on the back of last night I would pick Dib,Selby showed me nothing and looked mentally weak against an opponent who was posing him problems, the decision was a joke.
Other than Gradovich to whom he clearly lost, which "world ranked fighters", exactly? :think A has-been or two and several never-were challengers made up his paper champ 'reign'. Smith, Lindsay and Simion are honestly as good as or better than any victory Dib has. I'm not hyping Selby, by the way - just giving you a reality check about how pedestrian Dib is.
As a spoiler Dib was a tough fighter to beat. Since trying to prove himself a G to 50 he eats right hands like a fat girl does cake and is a pretty easy opponent for Selby.
In Oz, before hooking up with 50? Dib was a garbage fighter. Home cooking and getting away with fouls beyond number pretty much sum up his championship run...such as it was.
Im not gonna start rattling off the names of unknown Mexicans so you can try and say well who are those guys, nobodies ever heard of them. The fact of the matter is they were ranked by the IBF and obviously got there on the back of winning some fights.Selby has been strictly domestic level and that lad he fought last night really exposed him,if Selby is as good as people say he is on here he should have beaten him comfortably but he didnt.
I'm loving how all the naysayers try using Dib to make their point and push whatever their weird anti-Selby agenda is, pretending they know anything whatsoever about Dib, not reckoning on the Yank who is completely neutral toward Selby (really don't give a **** about him, either way...the mustache creeps me out a bit to be perfectly frank) who follows international boxing a lot more closely than probably all of them combined and has seen all but 3-4 of Dib's bouts since 2008. :yep Can you say own goal? :deal
The Italian he KO'd was garbage mate (most protected record I've ever seen) and guy he beat to win title was about 8th rated Mexican featherweight on Boxrec. These were no better than Smith, Simpson, Lindsay or Simion. IBF are better than others when it comes to double champions but their rankings are just as bad. If he fought in his old spoiling ways he would have chance against Selby but in new fan-friendly style gets KO'd.
Fair post. :good Even when he was "slick", however, that style was never applied effectively against opponents any better than Selby. FFS he was dropped by Luevano and Yamaguchi (both feather fists - real feather fists, not like Selby with his misleading early record)
There is no anti-Selby agenda, hes been hyped by Hearn and called things like the Welsh Mayweather and he has come across as very smug arrogant in interviews. If you are an up and coming fighter with alot to prove you should do it in the ring first.Alot of people especially on this forum have given in to the hype of Lee Selby on the back of what merit I will never know.I am not a follower of Dib and I dont rate him highly,I have seen both of his fights on ESPN and watched him live in Australia. He would most certainly be the toughest fight of Selbys career and judging by what I watched last night Dib would probably beat him. You think otherwise and I respect that but dont try and tell me I dont know anything about Billy Dib and I am simply just anti Selby because that is not the case at all.
Alright maybe not you, maybe I unfairly lumped you all together, but this Heavy-handed certainly seems to be trolling with some bug up his butt regarding Selby and the tone of some posts seemed to be presenting a unified front of "yeah, let's gang up on Selby and make like he isn't fit to share a ring with Dib" I get that undue hype is annoying (and yeah, it was stupid when people were saying that Selby was destined for world class dominance because of unfounded rumors he dropped Gamboa in the gym) but so is excessive bashing even if meant to simply combat the hype. Dib is on Selby's level - and that doesn't mean I think Selby is world championship level, it means Dib never should have been.
What I find amusing is certain individuals completely writing Simion off as some kind of bum that Selby should've beaten with ease. Nothing has changed since before the fight. This was an unbeaten guy who looked as solid and as durable as they come even if he was limited in output. I'm not sure much can be read into the fight other than there was some fairly blind matchmakling that Selby came through. All fighters have ugly fights along the way. If people think Selby wasn't much cop last night then you can't argue too much with that assessment. But not sure you can make career assessments from last night when some of the names being touted for Selby as being a step up from here would undoubtedly be less tough than this unbeaten Romanian lad was last night.
Selby has the potential to improve was stepped up last night & won by a couple of rounds against a ranked opponent done a decent nights work for me. Dib v Selby would certainly favour Selby to win he would frustrate Dib & when frustrated Dib resorts to holding & constantly fouling wouldn't be the prettiest of fights but Selby on points imo.
