sick of british stoppages

Don't watch British boxing then....

Bad stoppages happen all over the world not just in Britain,when a fight is stopped a little early people are complaining,if the fight goes on too long people are still complaining.Theres no happy medium.At the end of the day the safety of the fighter should come first and fore most so your opinion doesn't really mean dick.

 

Imagine Pac Marquez 1 with a British ref.

 

Absolutely. Some people would rather see a fighter badly hurt than a skillful contest.

 

I don't think you can complain about the stoppage but in saying that Coyle was up never took too many shots during the fight I would argue that he should of maybe got a chance to go on.. If he survived the end of the round I believe he would have still gone on to win.. But we would be going mental if it had carried on and Coyle had got hurt badly.. Refs job is hard but boxers know the risks when the get in the ring

 

These things are not black and white, so there can be no set rule. Some fights should be stopped after a knockdown, some fights should be stopped without a knockdown, some fights can continue with multiple knockdowns.

It is the 'skill' the ref to judge this, although as I suggested there is nothing more dangerous than a 'brave' ref; so caution should always be in the thoughts of a referee when making a call over a fighters ability to continue to fight.

 

I was desperate for Coyle to win but if you watch the slo mo his eyes rolled and he was out as he hit the floor......good stoppage.I would much rather see an early stoppage than someone get seriously hurt.

The Campbell fight was obviously fixed. How much extra did Eddie pay Harris ?

 

Fixed for what reason? Why would hearn feel the need to fix this? a world class amateur boxer against who hearn and alot of ppl classed as a durable oponent. I had a personal chat with hearn afterwards which he said he was very pleased but would like to have seen a couole more rounds.

 

absolute spot on with the last paragraph.4-6 round fight like last nights campbell fight and ogogo fight have no problem stopping these two fights at earliest opportunity if any doubt because they are learning fights with different levels of ability.

Also no issue with tommy stoppage his eyes were glazed absolutely amazed he got to his feet to be fair but spot on to stop.

For me the worst decision of the night was the jones fight.The choice of ref for the fight was poor a very inexperienced ref for two experienced fighters on fringe world level.Its very rare I slag a ref off because they know more than us fans in what there looking for and can see there eyes closer than we can.The issue I have is know your fighters carson jones is not enzo and did not look hurt at any stage.the referee was gagging to stop that fight from as early as the 2nd round when jones went back to his stool.

He was nervous of making a mistake and sure jones was getting caught a lot but this is what jones does h is hardly flyod may weather in defence is he!He ships punishment but with brooks nose in bother was still in the fight.At no point was jones in serious bother and the referee knowing jones and his career should have let it go on.very few people stop him he is tough as nails.

If that was one of our own fighters no way that gets stopped.A british fighter against an away fighter always seems to get one more chance to prove he is ok sometimes to almost detrimental effect.Letting khan continue after first knockdown v prescott was one of most irresponsible decisions i have ever seen when he comes out he is not there and presscott misses by a whisker with a shot that could have ruined khans career at best and at worst well i don't even like to think.I still shudder when i look back at that fight.

 

You can't dismiss an opinion just with the slogan, "the safety of the fighter should come first".

Boxing is a brutal sport. If you want it entirely safe, then don't even start the fight in the first place. You could make F1 safer if you made them do it at 40 mph, but obviously, that's destroying the sport. And it destroys boxing to be too protective of the fighters. You will not see half as many great fights if you stop people when they get a little hurt. Part of great fights is often that fighters recover and turn things around.

I agree with the idea that if someone isn't completely gone, then certainly they deserve a chance to continue after the first knockdown. And probably the second.

 

I thought the Brook - Jones stoppage was premature but it was Jones' fault for not friggin holding and moving his head!

 

Khan was gone but his head cleared around the 8 count, (he got his gloves up OK when asked) so I think the ref was right to let it continue. No doubt he was still somewhat hurt but that's boxing.

If you let fights continue, some of the time fighters will be able to recover and survive the round. And some of the time they are going to get KO'd. It's easy after a fight to say, "look what happened", "he shouldn't haven't been allowed to continue". But you don't know what is going to happen in a situation like that.

If we jump on refs when someone gets KO'd like that then of course we are going to get "British stoppages".
