Its always been odd when you watch guys fight for lets say the welterweight title, yet both weigh closer to middleweight. Look at Hatton, he was always big and strong at light-welterweight, he drained himself so far down it took its toll though.
ive 2 fights at lightweight and the night of the fight ive been 10st13lbs and last week was 10st12lbs when I left my house, not sure what joe elfidh weighed but I was way to strong for him, its a crazy rule really as I weighed it at lightweight and fought just under light middle but im not really sure what the best way to do it is because when a fighter is dehydrated thats when accidents happen
Yeah your correct there, a lightweight fight but your technically weighing in at light-middleweight. How do you and other fighters manage to lose 14-20 pounds for the weight making? It must be water, but don't you get really bad headaches when your dehydrated?:huh
The last week before the weigh in is tough as I cut most carbs and decrease my water intake, it leaves me with not much energy but by that time ive stopped training, the last few pound is taking water out of your body, its a tough process but with the weigh in 36 hours before the fight it gives you chance to rehydrate, and with the suplements and shakes my dietician gives me ive been putting on 16/17 lbs and feeling strong as a bull, coming in as a light middle in a lightweight fight is a big advantage especially in the early rounds, not sure how I will feel in the championship rounds but if I had any doubts I wouldn't do it
Thing is over the last 12-18 months there has been big noises made about the health and safety of fighters facing an opponent whos been taking peds. Many fighters have come out and said that its people lives at stake and i completly agree. However all the peds are going to do is make somebody increase size/rip , train harder and longer , or recover quicker, ect, giving them an advantage in camp. Even though technically in the rules, morally how could a fighter say that but then knowingly come into a fight up to two weights bigger than their opponent. Surely there are big risks with this?
At the end of the day muscle weighs much more than fat. So if you look at the boxers muscels it gives a better insight to the boxers fitness. Its not rocket sicence FFS and some people look silly on this thread.
It might work out at lower levels being able to overpower an opponent but ultimately I think there are few elite fighters who I would call massive at the weight. Mayweather Pacquiaou Marquez Ward Martinez
im not breaking any rules and to compare putting a lot of weight on after the weigh in to a drugs cheat is a bit of a cheap shot, ive been a professional athlete for 16 years and never cheated in any way shape or form
Scott Harrison was always huge come fight night. I remember Mccullough talking about the size difference of Scott from the weigh in to fight night. Im sure he said it was ''unbelievable''. He said Scotts strengh was ''phenominal''
By the book it's not cheating, but do you not see the dangers of being way bigger than an opponent? Surely this puts them at risk!
