He hasn't proven himself against anyone of any note, he was fighting 8 rounders up until a few fights ago. Yet, if you go by what everyone on here writes then he is a one man wrecking machine who is going to dominate the light heavyweight division for years. Maybe he will go on an be a good fighter but as of yet he has proven **** all, boxing is littered with up and coming prospects that have failed at the title and withered into obscurity. Some of you on here need to bear that in mind. There are too many easily led individuals on here who just regurgitate the ramblings of others who sound knowledgable.

How many World Champions has Nathan Cleverly fought?

Take away the WBO title, do you see any large gulf in class between them?

The one is a boxer who cannot get opponents out of there quick, the other is a puncher who disposes of opponents <3.

Kovalev clearly shows excellent power and great skills, he also looks a strong guy. He has blasted out nearly everyone he has fought. Chances are he would have KO's against all of Nathan Cleverly's opponents.
Have a look at the NC versus the Polish guy from a few fights back, when Kovalev lands a punch like the Polish guy did in that round (was it 4) it's game over. It's suicide to showboat against a fighter like Kovalev once you get tagged, and tagged he will be.

    Dangerous fight.

  3. Have you seen him fight
It isn't so much the standard of opposition it's the quality of his boxing and the ferocious combos he throws
He has fast hands that he lets go like hammers
He is class but I'm desperate to see cleverly prove himself

  4. Gabriel Campilo - ??????
World class fighter, got robbed against Cloud in his previous fight, so was arguably the number 1 at light heavy, was defo a top 5 light heavy anyway. It was a very solid win by Kovalev, the way he destroyed a world class fighter that made people realise how good he is.
Cornelius White was also a good win.
    He has proved himself imo

Well, I've been high on him since 2010/2011, so you can pretty much cram your "hasn't done anything to be talked up :|" nonsense all the way into your ****-hose (ass or mouth, wherever you like it better)

    A) You can appraise talent before someone has stepped up competition. You just need to keep it relative and not get carried away.

    B) Kovalev has performed with top marks in his last few outings, which in fact were steps up to serious competition - and only confirmed what I foresaw in him years ago...based on appraising talent relative to level of competition. :deal

He gets talked up because he is such an exciting fighter, technicians like Mayweather and Ward and all good and well, but nothing gets boxing fans excited more than wrecking machine power punching fighters.

    Kovalev is no mad brawler.

Loads of technique behind his offense, same as Matthysse. In both cases it's a bit too subtle for Joe Average so they write 'em off as unscientific. Both get into position intelligently and waste next to nothing. Some folks think if you aren't circling and jabbing like a cutie pie there is no skill involved. :verysad

Campillo is past his sell by date and has already tasted defeat five times.

    He is not world class

    :blabla

Yet prior to losing to Kovalev who said anything regarding the Spaniard being shot?

    Right, not you...not anybody.

He was coming directly off what most saw as robberies in the loss to world titlist Cloud and draw with top contender Murat in their rematch. (of a controversial MD loss to Murat)

Oh yeah - that's another thing...3 of those 5 losses are down to scoring that was questionable at best if not outright suspicious. Kovalev is only the second person to dominate Campillo and he dominated a more seasoned Campillo who recently had loomed just fine more comprehensively than Uzelkov did in 2007.

Why do people make these dumb threads, the guy is obviously skilled and a beast you can tell that already, yes he hasnt fought anyone good but at his weight everyone is vulnerable he could actually destroy alot of the top guys there (Cleverly included) this is why people were picking Peterson to beat Matthysse some people just cant recognise skill and just go off records and stats

His Campilo win is better than any of Cleverly's wins.
