Yes, but I am not going to get into it as I will be called a liar or a troll. As someone who saw Ike up close many times, he is easily the most overrated "what if" in the history of boxing.
So articles indicate that Curtis Cokes is training Kirk Johnson in Texas for a comeback. Anyone have any details?
The Ruiz debacle was what cost kirk his career. Ruiz should have got an Oscar for his acting in that fight & joe Cortez should have been banned for life for his inept officiating. I knew Kirk the whole time he was in texas with Curtis Cokes. He could have won a title easy & did but got screwed out of it. Kirk left Curtis for a while & that's when he went downhill. He went in against Klitschko purely for the paycheck he didn't try to win It was over for him by then
Teddy Atlas predicted that Kirk Johnson would knock Vitali out with one punch, but Vitali knocked Kirk Johnson in the second round. This was at MSG, NY, NY. Was sold out in a huge snow storm..............As Larry Merchant said, "The whale has been harpooned." Atlas did not like it, but what could he do?
Wasn't Lou-it was his son Dino.A very bad investment as it turned out.He never got his million dollars back.
Kirk was actually Canadian. He had the total package, handspeed, power, quick feet, decent chin (disregard Vitali fight). Loved the Maskaev fight and when he made Lou Savarese's eyes roll up in the back of his head. His weight problems and injuries ruined him.
all this is true but kirk had little confidence for whatever reason certain fighters made him nervous(somewhat scared). ruiz was one of them
tua was a little overrated maskaev was handling him rather easy before he got cought and tua was prime.as lennox put it... all he had was a left hook and a hair cut(a bad one at that) kirk seemed to have the whole package but as some of the old school guys would say...theres just something missing
