Haye lost nearly every round plus the fact he mouthed off saying he would kill Wlad.....He got mugged right off and then blamed it on his toe!!!!!
The first part of Booth/Hayes plan worked. To take away Wlads jab and his offense. He just couldn't pull off the 2nd part which was to land the shots to get rid of Wlad.
Yep I bet in hindsight he wishes he hadn't mentioned the pesky digit!Like saying his last couple of weeks of training were interrupted by bad dandruff!,,!!!
Great thread! Totally agree People like to rubbish Haye's achievements but hes achieved alot in the sport. People also like to run down his resume and dismiss the fact that he has no big names on his record. Its unfortunate for him that he has operated at a time where there are simply no real stars at heavyweight or cruiserweight people claim he ducked Cunningham but that is total nonesense and if Haye had of beaten him, we would of heard the usual dissimisals that he was really a light-heavyweight. Although he has been involved in his fair share of miss matches you only have to look at the way he's blown away the likes of Ruiz, Harrison and Maccrenelli to see what class he belongs at. Hes the only british boxer i can think of that can take out opponents when he decides too! He has alot of good attributes his power is phenomenal and i believe he was the hardest hitting 200lb fighter of all time. I also believe hes the third hardest hitting heavyweight behind Wilder and Wlad and thats a good achievement for a 'small heavyweight'. He also has a fantastic jab a good punching variety and fantastic head movement and i rate his footwork as by far the best out of the British boxers.
If Cunningham nearly knocked fury out then Im pretty sure haye will! Don't think fury will be quite as reckless against haye.
I agree Haye has got a lot of good attributes and he did well at crusier weight. But his Heayweight career has been disappointing to say the least
if haye did not think hed beat vlad he wunt make it his aim the get him again after fury. he noes he wasnt jabbed all day he just couldnt get his ofence off.
To me Haye looked scared of getting hit by Wlad, until the later rounds which by then it was too late
In fairness to him, he went 12 rounds with a guy with an awesome jab who towers over him and has a massive reach advantage and come out of the fight looking fairly good. Defensively his ability cannot be called into question. He simply didn't get his attacks off which was incredibly disappointing and it made him look very cowardly which was the real shame.
to be honest there was no decent heavyweight's bar the robot and the pensioner when he arrived on the heavyweight scene in 2008. Monte Barratt was to test the water and the Valuev fight was well justified and sellable imo. The Ruiz fight was a mandatory so obv he didnt want to give up his title and the Harrison fight was a nice payday whilst they were in negogiations with Wlad. People slate the Chisora fight but it was a grudge match we all wanted to see and Haye showed his class by taking care of buisness. Now in 2013 there are some genuine interesting fights for him obv with thw Fury fight coming up but if he cant get the rematch with Wlad the likes of Charr, Wilder, Thompson or Povetikin would all be decent matchups.
I'm so glad you said this. I'm constantly fighting this case with people. I really think he showed a lot of skill and a good chin in that fight. If he hadn't of wound people up before the fight, and then after with the toe thing, I think a lot of people would have been more open to how skillfull he looked during large portions of the fight. There isn't a faster heavy out there. People put too, much of their opinion of Haye on that one fight and forget everything else he's done. Most recently he battered a healthy, determined Chisora into the canvas during the first half. NOT something to take lightly in my opinion.
Fury is no where near the athlete wlad is, he's just big and has shown to be easily tagged by smaller fighters
Haye is world class but he's far too inactive which may not be a huge issue for him but will have some impact so landing the Hayemakers isnt is easy when your a bit rusty. Fury so far has taken everything he's been given so far, gets knocked down and gets's up again, if that happens against Haye he will start to question himself.
Fury hasnt boxed anyone nearly as good as Haye! Chisora and Johnson were both out of shape for their fights with him and the likes of maddalone and rogan wouldnt go two rounds with Haye.
