That is Clev's only hope and even then he would have to actually survive the first 3 or 4 rounds.

Another Hyped Russian called Chakhkiev who is a big puncher had a fight with WBC Champion Wlodarczyk a few weeks ago and dominated the first couple of rounds with a Kd but gassed babdly and got stopped.

Clev is probably hoping Kovalev does the same.

 

Campillo could handle himself, SD's against Cloud and Shumenov and also a draw against Murat. (in GERMANY) He had absolutely no answer to Kovalev. Campillo perhaps just as good as anyone Cleverly has faced so far.

Kovalev is not just one big punch, a one trick pony. He is so much more than that. I'm struggling to compare him with other fighters. He takes less hits than Dariusz Michalczewski did, he hit's perhaps a bit harder and doesn't push his attacks so much. As a puncher, perhaps a little like Corrie Sanders, great timing. I feel we are only seeing so much of Kovalev, he might not be even breaking a sweat. The ease at which he dominates decent fighters is impressive. He moves around the ring well.

What if Kovalev has other gears to go through, what if he has excellent stamina? From what we have seen so far, Kovalev should have easily enough to win by TKO or KO against Cleverly. If he's really motivated and there's more to come from him then it could be an incredibly hard night for Cleverly.

 

I'm starting to think this could be Clevs Katisdis moment.

Remember the weeks running up to that fight with Burns? The way some people were talking you would have thought Burns would be in a coffin at this point.

 

Katsidis whilst good had seen better days. Exposed at the top at world level. Kovalev perhaps at the top of his game, coming to win.

 

Clearly, I bet he doesn't give two shits if a div on a boxing forum regards him as a "legit world champion" lol, get over yourself dickhead.

One thing I feel sure of is that Cleverly is fitter than Kovalev. Kovalev has never been further than 8 rounds and if he doesn't knock Clev out then Clev wins for me. If Kovalev can go hell for leather for 12 rounds then of course this changes - maybe he can, maybe he can't. If Kovalev brings all that you mention then it will be a hard workout for Cleverly but I still fancy him to win.

The thing is so much **** has been spoken about Cleverly that he is himself underrated, and his last 18 months have been bloody awful so that's actually playing into his hands in tempting Kovalev over here. Am pretty confident Cleverly will deal with whatever Kovalev brings and if he doesn't then fairplay to Kovalev for backing up the confidence he has shown in himself . On that point though it has been mentioned that Cleverly is going into this with his eyes closed and not realising what he's up against; I think the reverse is true and it's Kovalev's team who are underestimating what they're up against.

 

How do you know Cleverly is fitter? Who cares if Kovalev has never been longer than 8 rounds, there's a damn good reason for it.

It's putting 2+2 together and getting 5.

 

If Kovalev's never been into the championship rounds before of course it f*kin matters because we don't know yet if he goes the full distance in a fight. Like I said maybe he can, maybe he can't but if he can't spark Clev it's an issue in only his 3rd 12 rounder. The maths ain't that complicated

 

Kovalev has an excellent trainer along with all his power, talent, stamina, chin, boxing IQ.

I think Cleverly is underestimating Kovalev.

 

Some excellent points there. I agree, it's a harder fight for Kovalev than White, Thompson and Campillo. The trouble is, Cleverly is there to be hit, Kovalev hurts people without catching them clean. If Cleverly fights like he normally does, Kovalev will land clean (lesser fighters have had success). Cleverly is a tall and not a stocky solid light heavyweight. Perhaps Kovalev's team will fancy an even quicker finish than normal. Perhaps he will just walk through Cleverly. If he feels Cleverly is a fast starter, busy fighter with great stamina, the urgency to get an early finish will be even greater. I won't be surprised if Cleverly is rocked by a jab, or is clubbed around the ring a bit very early on in this fight. On the same note, perhaps he peppers Kovalev from distance for the full twelve rounds.
I'm going with Kovalev based on what I have seen of both fighters. I just hope it's a great fight and that we have a clear winner with both fighters OK afterwards. :good

 

Yup.

Folks who reduce Kovalev to a crude braweler, the LHW version of Maidana, for example, have either not watched the kid or have little boxing IQ.

The kid punches fluidly, doesn't take unnecessary shots to land his own, and as you alluded to in other posts, possesses a sort of calmness to his work, quite uniquely I might add for a power puncher.

He is calm in the ring, everything is under control. He has lots of KO's, his timing is good and he has heavy hands, clubbing shots. He's not a throw everything banger like Nigel Benn. He's special.
