Ring Magazine Heavyweight Ratings as of August 2013

When did Vitali last fight again? Something like 9 months ago wasn't it?

 

Its beyond me why people put Helenius in there. He clearly, i mean clearly lost to Chisora, and has been poor since. He is nowhere near the top 30 let alone top 10. Haye is 3rd, everyone knows that. HW is easy to rank from 1-6.

 

By and large Wlad,Vitali and Haye apart they're basically rubbish.

 

Where's Deontay Wilder?! I'm surprised Ring didn't put him in the top 5! LOL JK

 

It's not a bad list.

 

1. Solid ratings in general.


2. Wlad is dominant as can be. I would still pick Vital at age 42 over anyone else. The undefeated people outside Povetkin and Pulev aren't great and might not even be in the top ten by December 2014.


3. I would say Solis would beat a few guys on the list, and should be ranked. Helenius at #7 seems a tad high. IMO, he lost the fight to Chisora.

Thompson faces Pulev, the loser which is likely Thompson won't stay in the top ten.

The Ring HW ratings are okay, except they have Ruslan Chagaev (no longer really a contender) too high.

Young HWs like Jennings, Boytsov, Wilder, and several others are just one good win away from breaking into the top ten.

The ESPN top ten HW list is not as good, with Chris Arreola somehow at #10 and Tyson Fury not on the list.

 

A couple notes:

• Stiverne a bit low off of a big win
• Fury, a man who beat Cunningham, should be up a little higher
• In that same token -- what has Adamek done lately? Put him down a bit.
• Helenius hasn't looked to be the goods lately. His best ""WIN"" is the unranked Chisora. Bump him to the lower half.
• Chagaev usually holds off at #10 on my list. He's up much to high by the ring seeing his inactivity. Bump him down some.
• Solis, Chisora, Arreola, Mitchell, Dimitrenko might be considered for ranking really low in the list.
• Povetkin above Haye is a rather abnormal choice... IMO.

Haye is too high so is Helenius and Chagaev but what does it really matter? After the Klitschko's there really isn't much out there.

The division hasn't been short of good scraps as of late, controversial decisions aside on some of these. Follow the division as whole, not the Klitschko Brothers. And even Wlad's last fight wasn't too bad actually, Wach was overmatched but he got a few good licks in and took his beating like a man.

It's been several years since Chagaev had a big win or even a halfway significant one so he's not Top 10. I can't rate Haye in the Top 10 due to inactivity. The Ring ratings aren't terrible, but they aren't exactly the most accurate.

 

The list is not really that bad, although Chagaev, Helenius and Adamek seem to be a little too high.

A lot of top 10 fighters are aging, Povetkin and/or Pulev could become the next champs if Klitschko bros retire soon enough. I don't know what to think of guys like Helenius and Boytsov. Boytsov should step it up and start fighting top 15 guys within the next 10-12 months in my opinion. And Helenius should be fighting top 10 boxers by now. Abdusalamov also needs to step up as soon as possible.
Tyson Fury has his biggest test now. If he beats Haye, a title shot is more than realistic.
Wilder and Jennings should also stop up. I don't know what are they waiting for.
