Which of these fighters should be voted into the Hall of Fame in 2014?

Only 3 of those fighters can be on the ballot.

DLH and Trinidad are certain to be on the ballot - and Calzaghe is a good guess for the 3rd spot.

 

Joe, Felix, Oscar and Diego only.

who cares about shitty awards from a magazine. Haye was the world champ, something that Gatti wasn't. not even close.

Wlad is the Lineal Heavyweight champ.

these awards mean everything in boxing. magazine awards mean jack ****.

Byrd has beat better fighters than Gatti has. so he comes out on top as well.

 

What two rocket scientists voted for Ibragimov? His resume is crap and he quit after his first setback. That is hardly worthy of HOF induction or even consideration in my opinion.

 

Trinidad and DLH are clear cut first ballot HOF's.. Slappy belongs in there too I guess, but the only reason he's in there is for his gimmicky undefeated record and WBO title reign.

Then there's fighters in the borderline..
Moore, 5 time world champion in 2 weight classes, lineal HW champion, although 2 of those belts were the WBO in the late 80's to early 90's, which was equivalent to ****. Has a win over an ATG fighter in Holyfield. Although his lost to a 50 year old Foreman and weak chin weakens his case.

Vernon Forrest, 3 time world champion in 2 weight classes, has 2 wins over ATG Shane Mosley, but his 2 losses to Mayorga and short career weakens his case.

Diego Corrales, 4 time world champion in 2 weight classes, has great wins over Casamayor, undefeated Freitas, Robert Garcia, and Castillo, and has been in countless wars and fight of the years. The only thing holding him back is his consistency, but he should without a doubt be included imo.

The only fighter left for consideration is Fernando Vargas, who I feel shouldn't be included, but if Gatti was, Vargas should be too..

Youngest ever champion at JMW until Alvarez, 2 time world champion, has wins over HOF's Winky Wright and Ike Quartey.

 

The 2014 HOF class will be the deepest since the 2008 class which had Whitaker,Duran and Ricardo Lopez.

 

Let me also add that it will be real surreal if Vargas makes it alongside Tito and Oscar given how personal things got and maybe even still are between all three of them.

 

Oscar for SURE. He is the most worthy of all people on that list.

Calzaghe probably. Tito maybe. Corrales definitely.

I'd vote for Sanders personally, if I could get people in. He died a hero and was an outstanding representative of the sport.

 

Gatti was IBF and WBC champ idiot. Who cares about the awards? How about the fights the awards were for? Boxing fans care about those fights. Its clear you never saw a Gatti fight outside the Ward triogly. He fought life and death in the ring and deserves those awards. He was the embodiment of boxing unlike the heavy's of today jabbing at each form a safe distance for 12 rounds. .... Haye was nothing but a paper belt holder with the worst HW record known to man.....Wlads fights were all a complete joke. What difference does it make if he's the heavyweight champ? The fighter makes the belts. The belts make Wlad the fighter he is , not his fights....Dont ever quote me again fool.

 

Yeah, the induction process seems to be lost on some people.

Oscar and Tito are 100% certain to be on the ballot and inducted first time around.

Calzaghe will probably join them, but given that the hub of the voters are based in America there may be a spanner in the works. Unless Riddick Bowe has a pro boxing bout in the meantime, he could well get in like the vast majority of lineal heavyweight champs. Corrales is also a strong candidate, particularly on the back of the Gatti precedent.

Calzaghe is more deserving, and will probably get the nod in his first year of eligibility, but it is an unusually strong class.

It's important to bear in mind that any potential new candidates are not just competing against the new pool of eligible fighters. They are also up against the existing names on the ballot, and other eligible fighters who aren't currently on there. The relevant competition for Forrest and Vargas are the likes of Curry, Zapata, Gushiken and Michalczewski, rather than just comparing them to the fighters already inducted.

2015 and 2016 look like weaker years for new candidates, but it may be that the voters right some of the previous wrongs. There has been growing recognition of the lighter-weights, particularly the Asian-based fighters. Also, a couple of the lesser-known Murderer's Row fighters have got in recently, which increases the chances of Booker getting inducted (he needs to get on the ballot first). Obviously, they need to have at least one high-profile fighter inducted every year for commercial reasons. I think Hamed has a good chance to get in either 2015 or 2016, mainly because of the scarcity of well-known fighters from the last 20 years on the ballot for those years.

In 2017 the likes of Holyfield and Barrera will be eligible (assuming they don't fight again), so there is a very limited window for some of the names in the poll to get on the ballot and have a decent chance of induction.

 

i know what Gatti won.

the fights that he won the awards for are great fights. no doubt. but you're making out that the awards themselves are better achievements than the real titles that Haye and Wlad had/have. i'm sure Gatti would have loved to have been a real champ over any of the ring mag **** he got. any fighter would.

i've got most of Gatti's career on disk. i've had them fights for years. so don't come at me with that ****. you're the one who doesn't know what the **** they're talking about most of the time.
