Great stuff man, thanks for uploading. Cant believe its actually from the early 20's, never seen such quality. Siki looks great, i like his crab defense.
I haven't even looked yet and I'm still excited. Just read about this fight. Thank you for the chance to see it.
I agree, Siki looks skillful and pretty good (most people always said he is a brawler without skills), he brings pressure, he goes to the body. And McTigue shows the shoulder roll in the 1920s. Maybe it is just me, but both look very skillful in their own ways and to me this somehow shows that when you watch old footage in high quality, it looks totally different than watching old footage in low quality. Meaning the low framerate and resolution of old films make the boxers look a lot slower and worse (technically) than they actually were.
Thanks very much, that is great quality. Just had a quick look, McTigue is doing a Floyd against the ropes.
It is all there. All the moves, all of the skill. That footage proves to me again that an all-time those guys were all-time great fighter is an all-time great fighter. Any Greb fights in the bag perhaps....or better quality Gans? Probably not. The guy who shows up with Greb will get his website crash because all fight fans will be coming out of the woodwork.
I'll have to wait till later to view this but is there enough of the footage to score this one or at least to comment on the validity of McTigue's victory?
It seems too good to be true... But what do I know? I am a sceptical, cynical old boxing fan, not a film technician, so kudos for posting it.
Never saw this one. Wow, this place is buzzing with old films I never saw. First Wills, now Battling Siki vs Mike McTigue. Bravo. Old films back in the day were sparyed with some type of chemical. The chemicals broke down over the years and damaged many old films. Hence, they can be grainy. PS: Siki is very fun to watch. I saw him vs.Carpentier. Not much for defense, Siki brought the fight to his opponent.
Is this really news? I have had the 20 minute version for a loong time and you can find it at a lot of traders lists. Sorry, but you don´t have to hope for Greb or other rare fight. (Although I would love to see such fights) Woller
Siki vs McTigue is rare. It is not on youtube and it is not on other sites which I won't name right now and it is listed on maybe 2 sites which sell fights. But all of them only have the 20 minute version and I do not know what quality they have. This is a 44 minute version of this fight and not a 20 minute version. And secondly, was the quality of the version you saw anywhere near as good as the version I posted? Because I have seen (and have) tons of old fights and also watched many hours of Newsreels (which also included fight footage) and I can tell you I have never ever seen fight footage pre 1930 which has the quality this version of Siki vs McTigue has.
