I don't think Naseem is a good example he won the WBO, WBC, IBF titles and beat the then WBA champion but Vasquez was stripped of the title before the Naseem fight.

If Golovkin picks up 3 major titles and becomes the clear number 1 at 160 lbs it wouldn't be considered hype.

Never been knocked down or even remotely hurt in a fight, was knocking kids out for fun in the ams,Olympic silver medalist and world amateur champion.Current WBA middleweight champion holding a 90% ko ratio.

Hamed and Grant could punch but neither of them had the pedigree.

You could compare Curtis Stevens to those guys but GGG is different kettle of fish, there's no comparison at all.

winning titles in boxing isn't a good way of judging a fighter's career though
danny green is a '4 time world champion'....sounds good when you say it like that, and in any other sport he would be a legend

prince naseem did a lot of good things for boxing, but he will always be remembered for retiring after losing to the first truly world class fighter he ever faced

His only lose though is to a fighter who many rate as ATG or at least a Hall of Fame level fighter, he has beat many other world ranked fighters though.

Absolutely. I bet Loefer gets more from HBO when Gennady fights. Disgraceful stuff.

Why are you justifying GGG's low sallaries?
He'd be making more in Germany or on SHO with proper manager.

€260k from Mackling fight.. and boxing is supposed to be rising. :blood

    agreed
but the fact that he retired immediately after losing to barrera is going to burn any legacy he built before then

making more in germany but never fighting for a legitimate world title
MW is a poor division at the moment, and guys like sturm and geale have never been known in the US

but if 3G becomes the legit MW champ as most of expect in the next year, you can be sure that his rep will bring someone up a class to chase what he has

    This.

I know pro boxers at British and intercontinental level, the level Curtis Stevens appears to be at to me, who would tear your arm off to make this type of money for a world title shot.

being such a great amateur and winning medals might be a valid justification if they brought more money to the table...at the end of the day he holds 1 paper title out of a possible 8 and makes 300 grand per fight while still being hailed as the baddest guy around since mike tyson.
yes we know "everyone" ducks him except brave washed up shot junior middleweights

He wanted a title shot at Sylvester (very weak champ btw) he went to champion's ground. You want champ's belt - go to him and fight him. Nothing great about that.
He wanted to unify with the weakest champ, he choose Sturm. He went where the money were - Germany. Clear business (just like he got rid of WBA belt because of bigger money). You fight a guy (Sturm) who it is easy to look good with because of his style - no power, takes a lot of shots. If Geale would lose it still would give him a lot (because he throws a lot of punches) just like it did to Macklin even though he lost.
Geale's travels go Germany are overrated. The place of the fight does not matter because it were close fights and everywhere else it would be close fights.

Decent figher who was past his best against Geale. Best Sturm was in 2004 against ODLH when he was 25 then.
Demolishing prime Macklin in 3 rounds is a better win than beating past prime Sturm in close fight no matter where.

Demolishing a guy who gave very big problem to No1 i MW is impressive no matter of age.

They finished doing in 160. GGG did not. Besides I was comparing GGG and Geale. You just wanted to troll I guess.

Oscar was never a MW, and sturm never wanted to be a player at MW. he was happy raking in the cash defending his paper title in Germany and he only took fights he thought he could win

nobody had gone to Germany and taken it from him because going to the US offered more lucrative fights if you got a foothold

geale made very little money beating Sylvester and sturm, which is why he took the money fght against mundine to give him financial security and 3G got one of his belts from this

macklin was a fringe fighter looking to cash in against 3G who was never known internationally. geale is earning his stripes
