Was Hatton really "shot" against Pacquiao?

Hatton definitely lacked elite skill but he did show a solid chin until Mayweather cracked it.

Also, his ballooning in weight between fights had really caught up with him by the time he fought Pac, he didn't look healthy at all going into that one.

 

He definitely wasn't the same. That performance against Lazcano was atrocious.

Hatton got his Glass Jaw shattered. Just like he did against Mayweather.

His Chin let him down.

 

When strength is your biggest attribute you are going to find it tough when it goes.

Hatton simply didnt have the boxing skills to back up the speed he once had.

Great boxers like JMM can slow down and still look great , others like Hatton and Pavlik look like **** because they didnt have the technique.

Hatton's skills are being sold short here. He may have been faded, but the style match-up was always going to favor Pacquiao. It doesn't mean Hatton didn't have good in-fighting skills.

It's funny how many forget that his chin was checked before that. Collazo who isn't a big puncher by any means, had him on absolute ***** street.

 

Well, Hatton was a come-forward-aggressive-brawler, while Morales was a sweet science boxer. And lets not forget that Morales was stopped twice by Pacquiao, the 2nd time in the 3rd round. I don't think Hatton's effort was embarrassing against Pacquiao. The first round was very exciting and it was one of those fights where you felt like somebody was going to get KO'd. If Pacquiao didn't KO Hatton, Hatton looked like he had the ability to hurt Pacquiao too. Was Hearns vs Hagler an embarrassing effort by Hearns? I don't think so. Not to compare Hatton - Pacquiao to Hearns - Hagler, but they were both fights that both guys were swinging for the fences. Most fans like fights like that.

Also it should be noted that Hatton was trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr. for the Pacquiao fight, and I'm just not sure that Sr. was the right trainer for Hatton in that fight. It would be like Sugar Ray Leonard (a boxer) training Roberto Duran in his prime (a brawler). That usually doesn't work.

 

hatton was weight drained. he wasn't allowed to gain more than 5lbs from the initial weigh in to fight night.

 

Many people thought Collazo won that fight. It was very close, but watching that fight Hatton didn't seem like he had the same speed he had at Jr WW. Hatton looked very different in that fight. It was his first fight in the US, maybe that had something to do with it. It was also his first fight at WW. Maybe a combination of the two, but yeah Hatton barely escaped with a controversial decision in that one.

I don't like the word "shot" but by the standards that it is used on this forum, Hatton was absolutely "shot."

He clearly was worse at that point than he was any time since his novice days but I think he would have been able to beat some top 10 guys at 140 then and the victory is still a great one; one of Pac's best.

 

Whoever said Hatton was an elite fighter? Most people recognise he wasn't.
Still, a sad post though from just another immature boring hater.
