Is Kovalev's P4P power up there with Matthysse and Golovkin?

Is it just me or are GGG and KOvalev exactly the same stylistically?

Matthysse has the better proven power by far IMO

Surpised no-one has mentioned the death in the build up to the fight........

 

People will be saying this after he destroys Cleverly.

 

He's got good power. All 3 are probably the highest level of power in
their respective divisions. Stevenson might crack harder than Kovalev though.

 

I think what he said was "I'm a fighter not a weightlifter, who cares what I bench-press" or something similar, if that's from the Kazakh newspaper article.

 

Even though they are not as good boxer as GGG, I think Lemieux and Stevenson should be considered in P4P biggest puncher.

 

It was mentioned in the public workout yeserday. The response was a very frosty 'no comment' and 'I don't want to think about it at the moment' (lit: I don't remember it now).

Very freakin' unfair to bring it up , just before a fight:- the guy has to live with knowing it could happen again in any bout, yet he has no other way of makin' a decent living.

 

Well, Lemieux still has one of the best KO ratios out there, but almost no names on his resume. The moment he stepped up, he started losing - good power but power with volume, similar to Kovalev, simply that he couldn't either land as cleanly or get in position against the better boxers.

Guys like Stevens or Stevenson possibly have flat out greater power, but have to wait for the right moment to get the KO punch, which against a decent boxer might not even happen.

GGG can set up and land the precise KO punch, and Kovalev has the versatility to throw a lot of heavy punches with accuracy from angles, some of which inevitably get through, and each is enough to shake or soften an opponent for what follows.

There's a saying that 'Speed is power' - well, 'accuracy is power' also.

 

I am not sure if Kovalev hits as hard as either man, pound for pound, but he has better handspeed (P4P) than both. Moreover, he's a flat out better fighter than Lucas.
