Frankie Gavin v David Barnes 21/9

I didn't even know Barnes was still boxing,pointless fight imo.Frankie needs a good test maybe fight for the European.

It's obviously just a keep busy fight but I don't think he needs anymore of those tbh.

 

I think too many keep missing the point. It's to win his lonsdale outright which he clearly wants to, he intends to move on with a fight again in December if all goes to plan.

 

I understand what you mean but i think the learning and experience of facing different styles goes into euro/fringe world level. You are always learning. I do agree that most fighter move on too quick but i think its clear that gavin is better than this. When he has looked bad its because of activity and not moving forward. Its when his momentum slows. Although i actually think that this fight is purely for him to win the belt outright.

As long as he comes back before the end of the year against someone better than domestic then although its not going to help gavin progress i can live with this as a fight.

 

Carson Jones would be a good test after this. Don't see why people are complaining though, this fight is better than nothing at least he's staying active.

 

A fight to keep active and a voluntary of the belt he's made absolutely no bones about admitting he wants for keeps. He's said it since day one and re-iterated it in the dressing room after the Vassell fight with the I-Film interview.

Why not fight Vassell again?

Why not fight any one of 20 opponents that are better qualified than Barnes is at this stage?

It's a rubbish fight. There should be some quality control over opponents for the British title. Gavin will have had two rubbish ones.

He's not the only one, most of Brook's were crap too.

Barnes hasn't beaten anyone decent in about 7 years.

 

Maybe he wants a different style of fighter?
Maybe he has a big fight lined up after this and would like a gimme to keep him active but keep him relatively unscathed?
Maybe he just doesnt like David Barnes and wants to punch his face?

 

Or maybe they're trying to win a Lonsdale for keeps on the cheap?

If I'm not mistaken to win the Lonsdale belt outright he will need to fight a mandatory? People jump on things far too easy David Barnes is a very very good boxer he will make things awkward for Frankie.. I think the will be a snooze fest but as Davie has said it will get Frankie a look at someone who is quite similar to him style wise and test what level he is at before trying to step up to euro/world level.. I think this is a decent fight not great but good at this time

 

I remember the days when Barns was highly thought of. I thought he quite the sport years ago.

 

Barnes has beat his last 2 opponents who had losing records and drew with Vivian Harris. Seems easy to get a title shot. I understand why this fight has been made. Very winnable fight so Gavin wins the belt outright before moving on to better class.

Doesn't mean i have to like the fight or watch it though. **** fight and one to avoid.

I don't think it's a bad fight and it keeps Frankie busy which is what he needs. Would people rather he just didn't fight on that date at all. Frankie will win a world title and there's still plenty of time to get there now he's so focused!
