Id like to give Gary huge praise for his corner work last night,he nursed big enzo through the fight encouraging him throughout and keeping calm in a very tough fight. Many thought Enzo was finished but Gary beleived in him and that was repaid in full with a gritty performance. Well done to both your a credit to the sport
Will we see you start a Joe Gallagher appreciation thread any time soon Billy? Agreed though, Gary did an excellent job.
He was very honest after the fight too, admitting he is not the enzo of old. He made some good points saying that if he is going to continue, he might as well have someone in the corner who will prepare him correctly and believe in him.
Also bill would you train ricky for as long as he wanted to fight? I mean even if he still wanted to fight when he is over the hill like enzo is?
Difficult question. Billy has to put food on the table at the end of the day. If he told Ricky how he felt and Ricky wanted to continue then you could hardly blame Billy?
Good Thread, Enzo has been sort of overshadowed by the Cleverly result. I watched it and thought Lockett was the difference in the end, Enzo had to go through some rough patches and dug in but it seemed Lockett kept Enzo believing.
You beat me to it Billy. Superb corner work. A great mix of technical advice along with motivational words!!
Yes great corner work, Gary's a friend of mine and I'm going to meet him in Gleneagles later in the month to teach him that it is ok to smile when you do well! Lol lol
No one is fighting or training to eat some bread so just stop with that crap. And a trainer sticking with his fighter even when past his best is no problem. there is always work to be done. Matter of fact a fighter clearly past his best with his trainer putting on a far better performance than expected- even in losing is a beautiful thing. Morales Maidana Judah Garcia thats just very recently.
These guys are not fighting or training to eat food :good Let's not delve off into something else. Also - if the fighter is past their best then their trainers pay is down as well and could be better someplace else. Anyway this topic is a side piece and too many "what if's" A shot fighter can be Riddick Bowe whom cannot speak properly at 29 yrs old. Or could be Erik Morales or Zab Judah- whilst not what they were- can compete high level TV fights and make a great account for themselves even in losing ! Just too many variables for this question, Im sure you would agree :good
