Punching power. After watching tonight's fight and Ggg against Macklin why can some fighters who are not especially outstanding physical specimens punch like demons and others who look like beasts not punch their way out of a paper bag?

Im no expert but im pretty sure it all comes down to accuracy and technique. Plus relaxation in the ring will go along way. And just remember"six packs dont win fights"

It's natural strength. Out of all my friends the one who punches the hardest is the smallest one, who is not really built that well. Also look at the legs. You seen a big difference in the cleverly fight tonight. Kovalevs looked far stronger. Naseem hamed also had tree trunks for legs. That's why he was knocking people out left right and centre with both hands.

I know what you mean but alot of big punchers in boxing and for that matter i cant think of any boxer that has tree trunk legs and is at their top of his game:huh Imo the greatest power comes from accuracy and timing. If any grown man were to punch even the best boxers in the world as hard as they can on the chin im sure it would hurt.

technique definately but for me natural strength and ability wins!

you can train a fighter to be a champion, you can train a natural to become an icon!

A lot more han just that. The simple point is that just because you look big and or ripped does not mean you are fit for the purpose of throwing a hard punch.

Genetics imo. Some guys are just born with certain characteristics. Punching Power is no different.

Speed and technique. Its about the ability to transfer the energy from your legs/core to your knuckles. Its quite an uncanny thing and sometimes defies explanation. Speed , snap , relaxation and breathing. I perfectly executed ko is a beautiful thing to watch.

It's something your born with, but you can develop it.. but only so far ... its legs, core, accuracy.. now kovalev or ggg is a different power.. your born with that, you can't just get it. Look at them, they sometimes don't even appear to be trying (technique wise) and yet every punch just has so much force

It's because you're confusing strength with power - they're different. Power is explosive energy & movement; feats of pronounced strength are dependent on a body's musculature. A lot of strong guys don't necessarily have great power - compare and contrast Strongman (as in the competition) with Olympic Weightlifting.

You can train for power - and I get the impression that this something focused upon quite doggedly in eastern Europe - but of course some people will just have natural power from denser muscle fibres.
