Kathy Duva said that HBO made the winner an offer they couldn't refuse. Something like a 4 fight deal with them.

It was definitely a good risk/reward fight if true.

As an undefeated young champion, he quite rightly thought he could beat anybody - they took the fight and he lost. There's no shame in it and no saying he won't come again.

 

I think Cleverley needs to get shot of his dad as his trainer as he certainly isn't improving. His advice in the corner is just non existent, when he does offer advice it's normally along the lines of come on Nathan you need to do better.

 

Last night was comical "your lateral movement is perfect" what?! he had no lateral movement he was ducking forward or dipping down to avoid punches from Kovalev other than that he wasn't moving his head at all.

 

Big fight Maccarinelli and Cleverly, also Bellew and Cleverly rematch. If Nathan is going to carry on perhaps a quick 8 rounder and then a British or European tilt.

Kovalev was awesome. He looked even more impressive than against the other opponents on youtube. I say it again, he looked huge, strong in there. He must be over 6ft.

Ha I thought the same when I heard it. Think Barry jones commented on it straight away saying he has no lateral movement. Not sure who he should get but I'd suggest anyone would be better than his father.

 

Cleverly is young & can rebuild. a few rebuilding fights & he can then target the weaker of the champions in the division (obviously avoiding Kovalev, who by that time will have 1 / probably 2 of the belts)
If Bellew wins a world title vs Stevenson, Cleverly could maybe re-match Bellew. There are good options for Cleverly & its not the end of the world.

 

Clev will be back at Euro level in November I reckon. Maybe Braehmer if he wins his fight.

 

Not sure Bellew would give cleverley a rematch should he beat stevenson as Cleverley wouldn't give Bellew a rematch after the 1st fight was so close. I'm guessing Clev would have to get to the mandatory position before they fought again.

 

Although I doubt Bellew does anything but get brutally KOed by Stevenson, if it should, Cleverly reaching mandatory status is a scenario that is even harder to see coming to fruition.

I just cannot see what Nathan has that could secure the wins required to get him to that position. He doesn't beat Hopkins, doesn't punch hard enough to avoid getting caught and knocked out by Stevenson, obviously doesn't beat Ward if he moves up, doesn't have the power to KO or the skills to outbox Dawson and would be of no interest to Froch, in the unlikely event that 175 ends up being a calling point for the Cobra.

 

I wonder if Clev still reckons he'd take Froch out!
