Maybe an old, Light Middleweight Cotto. The Cotto from the Mayweather fight? ****, he's even got a good chance.

The Welterweight or Light Welterweight Cotto (if sized up to Canelo a bit better) -- would blister reddie from round one.

Cotto has footwork and a great jab, unlike carrot top.

canelo has a great jab, footwork and defense. he is only 23 and has plenty of time to get better, he has been improving with each fight. a 26 year old canelo smashes a 26 year old cotto. people on esb underestimate canelo's skill level, he has a lot of fights under his belt.

Pure speculation. Lol at people that think just because a fighter is young, is gonna improve forever. So many fighters peak early. Ortiz and alexander just to name a few. 26 year old canelo may be a super middle so that point is moot

C'mon PR, 06-08 Canelo was a teenager. I didn't give Canelo a chance vs Cotto till late 2011. Prime for Prime I'll go with Cotto only cause we have not seen Canelo's prime.

I like Canelo, I like his attitude, I like the way he improves from fight to fight. Still doesn't stop me from thinking he is going to beat from pillar to post though.

Im talking prime for prime here, cotto at his best is considerably better than the level canelo is right now. Maybe canelo will improve and be the better of the two eventualy, but its not a given that it will happen. And we just don't know how canelo is gonna react if he gets beat soundly by floyd. Will he bounce back? will he lose his confidence?

I don't have a problem with people who believe canelo will be better than peak cotto when he hits his prime (if he hasn't peaked yet)

I do have a problem when people say current canelo would destroy prime cotto at any weight, thats ridiculous

And cotto could have gotten better if he didn't ran into those bricks

No, he doesn't really have any of those. He technically has a decent looking jab when he throws it, but tends to favor his power shots over establishing his jab. His footwork is decent against non-boxer types he has the technique edge on, but as Gomez and Trout showed, he's pretty flat-footed and can be tagged by a solid boxer type. Lastly, his defense is ok if that's all he's focusing on and the opponent is predictable. He made Trout miss a lot for stretches, for example, but the dirty secret there is that he didn't throw back much at Trout when he did that and Trout was throwing straight punches to his face for the most part. Against Gomez, Canelo tried some of the same stuff, but Gomez stepped in more, mixed up his punches better, and Canelo got tuned up(fortunately Gomez was undersized and not a puncher anyway). Canelo only throws punches when he feels like he has clear openings and against the two boxer types that didn't give him many(Gomez and Trout), his workrate dwindled dramatically compared to most of his fights. So obviously against arguably the best boxer type in the sport in Floyd, things don't look good. Floyd is likely to be at his safety-first best, not give Canelo counter chances, and the fight is terrible because the workrate of both guys will be very low.

The way I see it Canelo is a level above Marquez, Mosely, Ortiz, Cotto and Guerrero, at least the versions Mayweather fought. I can see how Mayweather wins because Canelo does plant his feet but I can also see Canelo having success with his timing. This will be a good fight and I certainly don't see a stoppage for Mayweather unless Canelo is drained.

I'm sure Canelo would be shocked by the revelation that Floyd Mayweather is better than Gomez. He probably wouldn't even have taken the fight if he'd known this.

i doubt that !! Cotto only been beaten by fighter that can 1)pressure him non-with punches or 2) able to out box him ..

Canelo does not have the stamina of Margarito to press Cotto for 7 round no stop nor does he have the chin to walk through Cotto shots.
Canelo also does not appear to have the stamin to box every min of the round, because if he is not coming forward Cotto will be.

What a level above JMM,Cotto,Ortiz, and Guerrero. On what planet.:patsch
He has fought 1 good fight. only 1.
Beating shane does not mean anything, everyone knows shane is half the fighter he used to be.
