Hi, I use to train self-defense about 10 hour a week based on judo, ju jitsu, shotokan and aikido. Later I took up boxing instead and havn't trained the last 5-6 yrs because of injuries, army deployment and finally univeristy. I know most of the MMA fighters here in town and I need to get back in shape (I'm 34 yrs and have become 60 lbs overweight  ) so I've signed up.

Our training schedule looks like this:

    Monday
    MMA/Shootfighting

    Tuesday
    BJJ
    Thaiboxing

    Wednesdays
    Thaiboxing
    MMA/Shootfighting

    Thursdays
    BJJ
    Thaiboxing

All classes are 90 minutes so that 10½ hours each week. It looks like a good schedule to me. Of course I'll be **** due to bad shape the first 2-3 months but I gain and lose weight in record speed. I don't have any ambition on fighting except maybe a fight or two just to test myself in competion. I mainly need something keep in shape since all I do these days is sitting on my ass and studying.

Besides protein supplements and strech like hell, any tips?

Looks like a great schedule to me. You might wanna take up wrestling as well(will help you a lot in MMA).

Besides that eat healthy and be sure to recover from heavy training. Good luck on dropping the extra pounds.

It say Mixed Martial arts / Vale tudo - Shootfighting for the class, they recently move to their own gym but used to share a gym with the wrestling club.

    :happy Awesome.

    My schedule is:

    Monday:
    5-6-Mauy Thai
6-7-MMA (moslt BJJ and ground and pound)
    7-8 Muay Thai

    Tuesday:
    6-7 Muay Thai
    7-7:30 Sparring
    7:30-8:30 BJJ no gi

    Wednesday:
I have my son until 7:30
    Then I lift weights

    Thurday:
    12 rounds of bxoing drills
12 rounds or Muay Thai drills

    Friday
    6-7 MMA
    Weight Training

    Saturday:
    12 rounds of boxing
    12 rounds of Muay Thai

    Sunday
    Same as Saturday
    plus weight training

That is basically it but it varies alot because I attend one gym that has two locations with different schedules, another gym for weight lifting, and I will be going to a boxing gym every other tuesday after a few months. I am still not in good shape and they just had amature mma fights that I was not ready for, I hope and believe I will be ready by the end of summer mid fall the latest.

I'm not sure what kind of advice you're looking for because it sounds like you know everything that you need to do. I don't have any advice for you - but I would like to offer encouragement and say that I admire your efforts. That's an ambitious schedule just to get yourself back into shape! I'm 34 and injury-ridden myself - and I couldn't imagine trying to work myself back into competition shape. Best of luck to you. Hang in past that first hell-ish week back and you'll make it. :cheers:cheers:cheers

It looks harder than it is. I don't have full costody of my kid and I have a lot of free time. I can go out and get trashed and still go to work and train. I have calmed on the drinking, almost not drinking at all.
I think I will be a force to be reckoned with in the amatures. My hole in my game is BJJ because I don't work it enough at this point.
My bread and butter is an over hand right that comes when I am getting really low for a take down. It is really hard and unexpected. I love this game.

****, 1st session of shootfighting and nothing but basic ground escape techniques and I'm allready busted. Sitting on your ass for 5 yrs is really awful preperation for MMA.

Lot of polish guys on my team

Yeah, but no days off? I'd burn out in a month. More power to you.

One of the guys I spar who does MMA matches does that all the time. He's a lot better on the ground than I am and bigger too, so I always try to avoid the shot and he'll throw one of those Marciano style baseball pitch overhand rights while he's shooting and it gets me all the damned time. I think I've countered it successfully about 3 times out of 50 and it does leave him pretty open, but I know it's coming and I'm still not doing to hot with it. A guy who doesn't know it's coming (if he's as low level as I am of course ) is going eat it a lot. He's started doing it with his left too, so I'm just about ****ed if I get in a spot where I can't move side to side.

 yeah that's the same move I pull. My friend held a title for a small org when he was 16. Youngest to ever hold a title for that org. He went to hold a title defense at his weight 135 and the guy no showed, The promoter said he could fight for the 155 title because the challenger didn't show up so my boy fought and won the title in a weight class 20lbs heavier. He did it with that punch in the first round.

I set such a hard schedule because if something happens were I can't train a day, I'm still training harder than anyone else. That's how I look at it anyway. I feel burnt out on occasion and I take a day off, if need be.

One more thing. That is a common punch in muay thai.
I have used it in boxing sparring when fighting a southpaw.
He throw the jab. I slip more under than over and I come in over the top with that over hand. It works on some guys and not on other but I would at least try to add it to your arsenal.
