Boxing has become a sport that the question: is (insert name of champion) ready to take on (insert name of challenger) has become commonplace. Example: Is Cleverly ready to take on Kovalev? Just playing devil's advocate. The same may exist in MMA as I do not watch MMA enough to know for sure.
MMA fans can try to bash boxing as much as they like, but they've got major problems of their own: MMA has had its initial burst and now seems to have reached a plateau. The UFC MMA's biggest organization has lost almost all of their superstars due to retirement or losses.. They've lost Randy Couture, Chuck Lidell, Rampage Jackson, Tito Ortiz, Ken Shamrock, Wanderlei Silva, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn and Dan Henderson. The No1 p4p fighter Anderson Silva has lost opting to stay and defend his title instead of challenging himself & moving up to take on the lightheavyweight champion Jon Jones in the biggest MMA fight that could probably be made, Silva has now lost & much of the hype for the Jones fight has been lost. Apart from Jones, Silva & GSP there seems to be a dearth of talent in the UFC, it also doesnt help when the fighters all get paid peanuts when compared to boxing, in a major ppv event the headline fighters in boxing would expect to get paid millions, however in the UFC its more like a few hundred thousand. We now have Bellator, which is a seperate organization to UFC which has signed some former UFC fighters Rampage & Tito, the problem is they UFC fighters cant fight the Bellator fighters and vice-versa, you also have the Russian organization M1 Global I believe its called which had the no1 Heavyweight in the world Fedor Emialenko, who again couldnt fight in the UFC or Bellator. So at any one time you can have a UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World, a Bellator Heavyweight Champion of the World and a M1 Global Heavyweight Champion of the World and none of them could fight each other. Much better than boxing!
Because they are a bunch of suburban mofos that loves rolling on the ground like homo***uals with their pink panties on, sweating, and nuts on their faces. They like it like that!
I've watched Boxing virtually all my life and Boxed pretty much since I could walk, writing for various Boxing magazines and blogs aswell. MMA undeniably has more skill involved in regards to just how many disciplines there is, that's a fact. MMA has evolved so much now that pretty much every fighter has to be highly skilled in most if not all the styles, BJJ, Wrestling, Boxing/Standup ect, their is so many ways in which a fight can end up being decided. Having said that Boxing will always be my sport, I think that true Boxing fans feel such an affinity with Boxing due to the history and the so many great battles over the years. If MMA keeps going the way its going, baring in mind MMA only became mainstream within the last 10-15 years max, it will develop the same kind of following.
Another reason most hardcore MMA fans give, certainly in my experience is the level of corruption and poor match making in Boxing, padded records ect, in MMA the best match ups are made, regardless of the records.
Rogan and dana white for that matter are boxing fans. Rogan mentions Donald currypretty often on his podcast which is a pretty random name along with a bunch of other non mainstream boxers Ps mma fans tend to be more open minded and more pro combat sport in general than armchair boxing fans who for the most part refuse to acknowledge any other combat sports usefulness.
@ DannyBoy1 very good comments! I agree. Furthermore I think there should be more solidarity among the fans of those sports. Let us not forgett, that there are moralists who want to banish both fighting arts.
